Hi everyone,

This winter, I am having a major surgery that will allow me to work once again.  I am now very comfortable and out as third-gender, but I am worrying about something.

I plan on moving to San Francisco to start my PhD, but I need money to move out there.  Right now, I live in the midwest and am wondering where I can find a job.  I doubt even if a bookstore will hire me.  That won't stop me from trying, of course I will, but I am curious as to what kind of jobs other people have had success with.  People here simply are not open minded and I am a bit scared of being attacked by a coworker since I have been harassed out in public.

I hope someone understands my concerns.  Sometimes I get a bit scared and overwhelmed. 

My electronics and programing skills have kept me employed. If you have the skills they need, often they will overlook a flaw like this as long as you produce. The higher level of education in professions like that also mean your coworkers are wise enough to leave you alone. If you don't have those skills you may be able to find support work for a company like that and still benefit from the environment.

Mostly I am just worried about finding work before going back to Uni.  Programming IS something I've kept in the back of my mind for a long-term job should my other plans not work out.  Having someone else report a positive experience in that field is helpful.  Thank you. 

Hi Kouzoku, I am also worried about this very topic.  I am nonbinary all the way and undoubtedly people will not understand and make fun of me. I get stressed enough that I can't get the sleep I need.  I just want to be able to work somewhere in the background where the only human interaction I have to have is when people tell me the task i need to accomplish and nothing more.
