Thanks for the update, Leigh!

I have hopes that more and more governments will see the light and recognize, at least, civil unions between consenting adults no matter what their sex and that the countries that are left behind finally, through sheer weight of worldwide practice, come to their senses on how ridiculous their positions are.

Of course, this hope is somewhat modified by my knowledge of governments and cultures that excessively prize unilateral action.  Take the instance of the metric system's acceptance in the US.  But since change is the norm, there's always hope.

When you come down under winding your watch back eight hours is easy it's the other twenty years that's the pain. :D

I'm tempted but I'll refrain from the "my government is more reactionary than yours . .  ." contest.  There are no winners to things like that (LOL)

Besides, isn't Howard a "super secret ultimate plausible deniability blood brother" to Bush?

Civil unions always strike me as the modern-day equivalent to "separate but equal".

I don't see where there should be a reserved sign on the front seats in the bus and I have to accept a seat in the middle.
