My strategy of being overly nice and helpful to my folks has finally paid off. I am now free to wear skirts around them without fear of being yelled at. It's also convenient that we are going through a heat wave and pants are too warm so skirts are a must. There reasoning is I am far more valuable dressed like a girl, happy, and here than not. There is still work to be done and things must be done slowly but it will be worth it in the end.

I am making a real effort to smile and be as kind and helpful as I can at work, though customers and co workers can make it very challenging and its so far from my normal style its incredibly tiring coupled with constantly being aware of my every movement and action, questioning every comment I make or if my voice sounded too male (It always dose).

But despite the fact that i am sleeping a few extra hours each night and still end up exhausted every day it dose seem to help, mostly due to sexisim people have been conditioned to see women as friendly and kind, so they are more likely to see you as a woman when you are. of course I always assume there just being nice and inside there thinking about me in a way that always puts me in a borderline self harm mood when I think about it.

ok that got way off target and too dark, but ya being friendly is a great step people have a harder time being upset by you if they find themselves liking you.

Great, as long as you understand that you have a right to your gender identity. As a human being, dressing and presenting as your identified gender is something you should not have to work for, should not have to curry favor with your folks to be entitled to.

I hope over time, they'll understand that allowing you to be yourself is not something you should have to earn, and that it's cruel to require someone to pretend to be someone they're not, whether or not they are helpful and kind.
