Starting Electrolysis...Yay?!

So, last week my voice accidentally passed a couple times on the phone. I rarely use phones because I hate my voice, I was forced to use the damn thing. The best part was that I didn't realize that I was even doing it! That gave me the confidence to finally call and make an appointment with the electrolysis place I had bought a groupon for two months ago. I tried to do it in person last month but that is apparently not how things are done. I had to call, leave a message and then be ready to answer the phone at some random point in the future. It all went swimmingly and I booked my appointment for next Tuesday!

My question stems from this. I am pretty sure that I mentioned that I needed facial hair removed in the phone message I'd left. The woman who returned my call certainly didn't ask what I needed work on. She didn't  give me any instructions either, I did tell her it would be my first time. So... Are first visits just consultations? I have heard others mention having to grow hair out for a couple days. Should I be doing that? I don't want to if I don't have to. Do y'all think I would save myself some guff by calling back and asking?

Let me know as I am super excited to start releasing my beard back to the void from whence it came!

Unless she said it was just a consultation I would be growing your hair out about 72 hours out before it make sure it's the right length to be dealt with. The basic idea is they need to be able to see where the probe needs to go into kill the follicle. You will need to do that before every session you have for the area that you are going to have treated that day. I hope that helps. Hugs

Even if it's a consultation you want your hair grown out. The first time the electrologist did a 15 minute session on me to see how I would tolerate it. 2 days minimum but ask them

The 72 hours is correct but the length needs to be long enough to get a tweezer on the hair as well. If your beard grows very slow, additional time might be needed but for most of us 3 days is enough.

Super! Thanks. So they will probably do one area? So I don't have to grow it all out? Yay! How much area can they cover, on average, in 30 minutes? Upper lip? Goatee area? Just the chin?

Ooh, just remembered my other question...gratuity. Do you tip? How much? In restaurants I am a heavy tipper, at least 20%, 15 for bad wait staff. I want to get the etiquette right.

I always went in with full growth so she could move around if a single area was taking to much of a beating. My work just kept getting thiner instead of having a bare spot along side full growth. As you get farther along in the process you need to just not shave because the area covered in a session becomes much larger.

Thanks Dena. I guess this is why they say to get this done pre transition. I have been feeling so good about myself now I have to spend a couple days feeling ugly. Oh well...it will all be worth it!

I don't, but I don't see why you couldn't but I would think you would want to save that for more sessions. It's a long and expensive process. Hugs

My roommate was able to push the standards and get her surgery early. She stopped getting electrolysis and as the results had to shave before going out.

I am completely clean and glad I put the time in to do it right. In my view a razor is good for only one thing and that's shaving your legs.

Thanks Mariah and Dena (and Kate too!) for all the help and reassuring words. And such quick replies too! I swear I am done you've answered all my questions.

Mariah I just hope you weren't driving while you were typing all this blather into your phone!
