As soon as I started HRT all my male clothing went to the local op shop.  It was a case of ready or not here I come because I was so totally fed up with living a lie.  Apart from underwear and leggings/stockings I tend to buy all of my clothing second hand and op shops have been a good friend to me over the years.  If you have a good eye you can pick up some really good quality garments at a tiny fraction of the new price.  And of course whenever I decide to prune my wardrobe all the prunings go back to the op shop so everybody wins.
With shoes I stick with flats because they're practical.  Now that it's Winter here I'm wearing boots and my current pair cost me all of $NZ8.00 second hand.  They're nice leather boots too.  When I was still working as a social worker I spent a lot of my day on my feet so good practical shoes that were comfortable to wear all day were the rule.  Back then I used to check out sales and if I found a suitable pair of marked down shoes I would buy two or three pairs in that style at the same time which worked out really well over the time I was working at the clinic.  I burned up a lot of shoe leather going up and down those corridors all day!

I'll be completely honest though and say that the first time I went clothes shopping for myself I was very nervous, but I found that wore off quickly and it became a totally normal event in my life.  The secret I found was to own being out shopping and it wasn't too long before I was just another ordinary woman in the store buying clothing for herself.  Rarely I struck other people who would pass off comments.  If they're store staff don't be afraid to complain to management about it.  This past month some staff at a big chain store here in New Zealand were rude to a transwoman customer and store management took her complaint very seriously indeed and took immediate steps to rectify the problem.

On the day I finally threw every last of scrap of John's life in a big bin.

I've been slowly building my female wardrobe.  Originally, I had no intention of doing so until I lost 100 lbs.  Once I started getting a few things, I decided what the heck!  I found Walmart to be a good place.  They carry a good selection of plus sizes, customer service is terrible so no one bugs you, and they have self checkouts.  I did go to Target yesterday, so I'm getting more brazen. [emoji4]

A couple of months ago, I went through my closet and donated about half my male clothes, only keeping ones I know I'll be wearing for now.  I'm now starting to incorporate some female clothes into my wardrobe.  Mostly t-shirts and undies.  Socks and unisex shoes are next!  I mean really, who looks at a man's shoes?

I started shopping for female stuff a few weeks ago

I wear it out in public, even though I am otherwise male in appearance. this is the start of my transition I guess

I am not on HRT.

Well I jumped in with both feet really fast and started buying a couple days after I figured stuff out. Spent way too much money on Amazon and pretty much used it for everything. But a couple weeks later I said forget it and started just going out and shopping. Its more fun at least for me to go out and look at stuff and not just see it through a computer screen. Oh and self checkouts are perfect for me, since I'm still nervous about my voice even if everyone says I sound fine.

As for my old clothes right now I'm just waiting for a free donation pickup service to get them next week. And all I'm going to have left is my work clothes otherwise everything is female no going back for me. Only bad thing is I'm covered on summer clothes just have to start building winter soon.

I started shopping from the women's side once HRT changed my body so that they just fit better and are more comfortable. It's nice to have room for boobs and a little less room for the waist. Most people don't even notice, really. The way I dress hasn't really changed much.

I started with the occasional skirt or dress with heels. Now I have a whole closet filled with jeans and t-shirts with only 3 dresses/skirts. I've also totally abandoned heels. I like my ankles the way they are.

I started slow and added things gradually. I now wear virtually any I wish to work provided I don't flash cheek or naughty bits. I'm a fan short skirts and heeled boots. I started collecting clothes well before HRT but went through a few purging cycles. I started gradually wearing stuff in public about 5 or 6 months into HRT.

What I learned pretty early on is that staff don't typically give a damn what you're buying. Just get what you want and don't sweat it. Tring on may make you more nervous bu checkout never should!

Reading all of this really makes me want to start as well. :3 Well at least at home for now..

Really wish my grandma would stop giving me killer stares whenever I wear my headbands or pigtails.. Makes it really uncomfortable to do anything I want when she looks away with a sad look as if I died or something.
