I went to a licensed therapist yesterday with 15 plus years experience and has a masters in social working. I spent two hours with her and left feeling more confused and doubtful about myself. I'm going to give her another go in about two weeks, but I was wondering for those who have gone before, is the first session always a let down? I feel like I haven't accomplished much and that it was more of a "get to know me" session. She said session two we would dive deeper... but I've spent the day reflecting on what my $100 bucks spent... the take home message was "be patient."

I'm now doubting what I thought I was sure a few days ago. Help...

Can you tell me a bit about what you might have wanted but this session didn't provide?
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

My first session with my therapist was much the same way. Gotta get to know you before they can be of any help. Mine even gave me homework to do. (questionnaire about my past, growing up etc.)
It does take some patience :)

I've just started working with a new therapist and my first session was all about getting to know me too.  Other times I've worked with a therapist it's been exactly the same.  No therapist no matter how skilled can jump right in without getting to know their client first.
