I have been thinking a lot about whether or not SRS will be possible for me. I am over 60 and wonder what the surgeons think about doing the procedure for women my age. I have talked to my Doctor about it and his response is 'depends on your help at the time'. I would like to here from any of you who have had the procedure done and how your recovery went. It will be a while before I am able to make this more as I am still early on in my transition. SRS is on my mind everyday! Thanks for your thoughts and stories.

I remember reading of someone else over 70 who received SRS. I'll see if I can find the story.

There was a woman who was in her 60s when I went to Brassard (she told me) and several more leaving when I got there who looked retirement age. The one who was part of my "group" did better than at least one of the 20-somethings.

I'm not sure if you want input from people who were younger - I was 34 when I had surgery - but if so, you can look back through my recent posting history for some discussion of my experience. I *do* think it's good to have help immediately post-op, but I suggest that regardless of age...

Dr Suporn in Thailand has an age limit of 65.

I don't know if its something your want or how feasible it is for you, but perhaps you can look at getting SRS sooner rather than later?

I am interested in hearing about the experiences of anyone over 60. I suspect as with HRT, things would be different from those of younger women.

Hi . I'm over sixty and have had the resources to carefully research this subject. The health of the individual is the key and if you are not overweight, exercise, drink limited alcohol  and dont smoke it is no problem. I am scheduled for 3 surgeries (srs,FFS and ba) in one induction on January 8th 2015. I have been on HRT for 2.5 years.

I had no problems on my surgeon selection because of our age. Dr Suporn has a 65 limit but he is the exception. Today there are better surgeons available. You will need to plan in advance and I set this in motion a year before the date.

It will be OK don't stress.

Warlockmaker, I am 61, on hormones, in my first year of living full time as a woman,  and plan to have surgery or surgeries in 2016 or 2017, provided I can afford it.  How did you begin researching surgeons and interviewing them, finding out technique details, and narrowing the choices?

I started on this forum and another to see who was being used and the comments. I then carefully looked them up on the internet. I have started a couple of threads on this journey on selection.  I understand the administrators are cautious about any negative statements.

I also fortunately have become friends with  many members personally, on this forum and other tgs who had surgery. It's been a group effort and you have to be aware that each of the surgeons will have some negative comments from our community.

A comforting note: I'm older than you.

Some of us are slow. In my case it has taken 60 years to fully understand what was going on. Almost three weeks full time. Want everything yesterday, especially GRS. At 75, there's huge urgency to live as my true self. That will enable me to be a better care giver for my beautiful wife of 48 years. If all goes as planned, sounds like I'll be among the senior citizens in the trans community! But, haven't heard of any senior discounts:)
