That brought a tear to my eye. I was in hospital having srs when she was on the news non stop and honestly didn't know what to think. I chose not to watch the coming out interview till after I was discharged in case it was too emotional for me. It is without doubt after watching this she is an asset to our community.

When I watched the video of her speaking. The first thing that I thought was: "Wow. Her voice really sucks."

I just don't get the logic behind forking over mountains of cash for GRS, FFS simply because you have it. But, you make zero effort to work on your voice and then you whine and cry when people clock you.

A lot of people either choose not to or are unable to speak femininely, not something I understand personally but I respect peoples choice to do so and feel for those that are unable to accomplish a feminine voice.

If you make the choice not to do it. You are just sabotaging your own transition out of pure laziness.

The idea that "some are unable to do it" is a lame excuse and nothing more. Again, people don't want to put in the time and effort. It took me three years to get even close to having a passable voice.

When I was in the Jr High boys choir. I was a baritone. Our teacher told me that I could even be used as a bass vocalist if need be.

So, I don't buy that excuse of "Oh, I can't do it."

No. You CHOOSE to not put in any effort or you give up after two months because it's too hard. Go cry me a river.

Our comunity should not sit and micro-criticize one who has chosen to be a poster girl for the better of trans people.  Most of the population know that she used to be a dude and  get that the voice is really not that big of a deal. Would we be happier if she talked campy and she sounded phoney? May be the voice will come in time.                                                                                 Some of us t girls have male physical features that cannot be changed.   Does that make us any less trans?  Iam  disapointed that from all the positive to come from the presentation of her espy speech, some can only find the negative in it all. Caitlyn unfortunately lived in a spotlight so  her coming out was in the spotlight. Im really sure that other than have her every move plastered on the tabloids, not one of us would refuse to use the cash resources to pay for their  feminization. 
To me the strength was  her chosen word, the struggles of trans people and how we all can work to make this a better world. Of course these are my opinions as are the previous opinions of others which we all have a right to , but we should not look a gift horse in the mouth

What do you do when no matter how strong of an effort, you can not feminize your voice?

My point has been this: Someone attempts to do something, such as feminizing their voice, and then after a few months, they want to throw in the towel. I've seen this here over and over. They don't want to put in the time and effort. They expect it to be done in a time frame of several weeks.

This is absolutely ridiculous. It can't be done. Anyone who thinks that it can is lying to themselves.

And that is part of the problem with transitioning for some people. They convince themselves that certain things can and WILL be done on a specific timetable. Sorry, but life doesn't always work that way.

my 2 cents would be if I had 2 cents is that if transgender people very simply embraced who they are the voice issue would be totally non existent. Also , I watched the whole speech and at first I said good for you be yourself then by  the end of the speech any awareness of her voice being different from any other woman was non existent. Her looks and what she was saying totally annihilated any relevance to her voice.

I loved her words, her appearance, her support for our community. Amazing speech.

This! I admit being a little irked in the first minute due to my own internalized transphobia, but her words were so powerful her voice became irrelevant, and I mean that in a good way.

Personally, I transitioned to feel more at ease and reduce my social anxiety, and worrying about a passable voice would just have given me something else to be anxious about instead. Can I do it? Yes, but it's at the upper limit of my range, so I sound monotonous and phoney, and long-term strain will damage my vocal cords. I've been practicing at home and I have the resonance down, so I'll fix the pitch problem at Yeson.

Transition is also a continuous process, and Jenner might not be done yet. It seems to me that she's trying, because her voice doesn't sound the same as it did in the 80's, but perhaps she just can't due to age or other physiological constraints. Judging her for her voice is no different than judging anyone else for bone structure, hair loss, or body type.

Okay well you dont need a specific time to get your voice right, I had no problems for example and almost didnt work on it, so it depends on the person there is no specific time frame. That being said, I didnt even care about the voice, the words were amazing, she  looked stunning, everything was perfect. Who cares about her voice, maybe she's training but she decided to keep using the male range until she knows she can keep her female range for a long time, or until she's confident enough, you don't know that, don't call someone lazy and make assumption about stuff you dont know. I don't mean to sound mean or rude, but I've read so many negative comments from cis people that getting this attitude from trans people too it's just too much.

Its not our place to judge that. The people who did have the right to do so apparently thought she did deserve it and awarded it to her.
