The toilet seat was up tonight

I walked to the loo.

I'd forgotten I have a man in the house. He is part of my life - and yet I forget.

The toilet seat was up.

It hit me.

I can't use that, I can't sit.

So strange.

I recall my sisters and Mum telling me and Dad to put the seat down.

It never meant anything, just being polite for reasons I didn't understand.

The toilet seat was up tonight.

A rush of how I have changed, my life is so different.

A toilet seat defines life.

A toilet seat was up tonight: my journey defined by my bladder.

I laughed.

I put the seat down and smiled in relief.

At least you didn't accidentally sit down on it while the seat was still up - that's pretty unpleasant I have discovered.  :o

You know still after all these years it's the only thing I miss, standing when the seat is dirty, cold, broken or all of the above

the hospital I go to has an automatic cover replacer for the seat, pretty cool.

I really liked that :) despite my preference of squatting like a caveman

I do hope you laid down the law to him about leaving the seat up.

I have nearly done that myself and but quickly corrected and put the seat down. Hugs

The public toilets in Bryant Park in NYC have or had that. Its a clear plastic sleeve.

My dad... used to do that on purpose. I could never fathom sitting on a hard, narrow piece of ceramic like that.

My mom? Complete opposite. She had a nice, soft seat in the toilet in her house.
