One of my biggest problems besides coming out to my parents is that I can't affort transition, maybe hormone treatment but not SRS, what can I do?

I've been looking into some insurance companies, can someone give me some advice?

Could you give some pointers, like in which state you are...
and are you employed or insured via your parents ?

Hi, I know you're eager to have genitalia that match your gender identity, but most of us wait years between starting hormones and getting confirmation surgery. For 100% of daily living, gender presentation does not depend upon that particular surgery. And with the standards that most surgeons follow, it would be at least two years before that surgery was even an option.

I could barely afford hrt, but I did it anyway. I don't know if I could ever have srs due to the cost, but living fulltime and mostly transitioned helps a lot and certainly better than nothing. You do what you can do and deal with it the best you can. As young as you are, chances are that you'll find a way sooner or later.

I personally do not recommend Cigna. I have had NO good experience with them. The only thing that they have done for me is made my testosterone cheaper. I plan to go on a rant about that in a different post lol..

Start hrt if you can, work on your voice and hair removal. Grs is great and super expensive, but trans issues have been moving a lot lately you never know what things will be like in A few years. A decade ago, no trans healthcare was ever covered, today some places even cover grs, in 5 years grs coverage may be the norm.

Work and scrape just like all of us do. No one can afford it. It just depends on how bad you want it.

When I transitioned, i figured my totals cost way between $30,000 and $40,000 with the surgery accounting for about $10,000 of that. Sound pretty good accept for the fact that I made real good money in those days and was paid about $24,000 a year. I paid everything out of pocket but insurance did replay me after the fact for the surgery. In those days the surgeons wouldn't accept insurance as payment for the surgery. It took 8 year between coming out and surgery with me putting pretty much every dollar I could come up with to make it happen. It's not easy but it takes long term planing and determination to make it happen.

It stinks to want to start and to have to hold off.  I would be almost all of us here have been in that boat. 
If I were to advise you then I'd suggest you go for a computer tech or science degree/certification and angle for a job with those types of firms.  From what I see they tend to be fairly open minded as long as you have skills.  Not only is the pay not bad but they sometimes cover SRS. 
The first focus is do what you have to, still as a guy I regret to say, to move towards a good job.  Build on that to achieve your dream.  Complete transition is your goal.  Now you need to determine the path to get there.

I'm 49 and am only going full time this Fall.  SRS isn't until Nov 2016.  Even so delayed I consider myself incredibly fortunate because it's in sight now.  Patience is key.

We were told in group that before you buy a policy to read it looking for transexual coverage and limits as well as looking at preexisting condition coverage limits. If you can't see a copy of the policy before you buy it, look somewhere else. I didn't dare file on my work provided policy because I took the job in the new role and I didn't want any of that paper work finding it's way back to the personal office. When I did submit the claim for SRS, it is possible that was part of the reason for termination from that job. We live in different times now and you should no longer have to fear that.
