I would like to know who has undergone some aggressive jaw/ chin work here with good results and which doctor was involved. A friend of mine needs very aggressive lower face work and she can't find an aggressive and experienced doctor

Any input will be very helpful.

I have had work done with Van der Ven and he was VERY aggressive with my tracheal shave
I've had two tracheal shaves before him, yet my Addam's apple was still very prominent, he got rid of EVERYTHING, didn't get my voice back until like 3 weeks after but was SO worth it!!

Had my jaw done with Chettawut, good work, chin? not so much, wish I had done it with Van der Ven

I had agressive chin work with dr Bart 6 months ago and I love what it did for my face. My chin is so cute now and my face so much shorter.

A downside of the chin surgery is that my teeth are somehow much more visible now when I talk etc. I have ugly teeth, so I really need to fix them. Totally broke at the moment though and not looking forward to braces on my age, but I'm afraid there isn't another option.. Also, my chin and lower teeth still feel annoying. So either recovery takes really long, or I'm screwed for life lol.

Oh.. and giving bj's isn't half as fun as it used to be..

Thank you for the information. Numbness in the lower front teeth and chin are normal after an aggressive job. It takes months and sometimes years to regain the feelings. As for your teeth cosmetic dentistry can fix the problem within days. It is more aggressive approach to orthodontics but it gives immediate, long lasting results. Did you suffer any motoric problem (being unable to control muscles movements)?

I'll be looking into cosmetic denntistry too, but I think it'll be very expensive. I'm going to consult my own dentist about braces and a cosmetic dentist about facings and then see. Besides the numbness the tightness of the scar in my mouth against my teeth is also annoying. I think my teeth have also moved. I'm not quite sure, but the position of my teeth looks even worse than before and one tooth that was already sticking out before ffs seems to stick out even more now. I wonder if it needs to be pulled. I've been postponing going to my dentist for months because it all still feels so weird, but I'm going to give it a shot early september.

I haven't experienced any motoric problems. Only the numbness and the tightness of the scar.

Something doesn't make sense.  Your teeth should not have changed location as a result of the surgery your describe.

Only if you had orthognathic surgery to move one or both of your jaws should there be any movement or relative movement of your teeth from your pre-surgery condition.  From what I have read - -  and having some background in the biomechanics of this area,  you simply cannot change the location of the teeth from the type of surgery you describe, unless something rather unusual took place .

This is one reason to use a surgeon who has been trained in orthognathic surgery as part of their plastic and craniofacial surgery training. 

Do you have any before / after  radiographs - -  that you could show to another surgeon?

Also,  you are describing persistent numbness.  Even when extensive movement of the entire jaw bone(s) (rather than just altering the chin) is done, the book on FFS suggests that the kind of persistent numbness you describe  should be rather unusual or rare.

I disagree with this. I had persistent numbness after jaw chin surgery for more than a year. Also scull numbness for maybe 2 years after FFS. I think numbness is very frequent after FFS and takes sometimes years to subside. Also most of the patients who have undergone FFS experience this.

The teeth changing location after FFS is very unusual but maybe the problem became more obvious. I believe that to be the case. Anyway, any before/ after picture to share sister?

I may need to investigate further, but what I read in Dr. O's book was that out of something like a 1000 or more  consecutive patients with substantial chin surgeries he had only one or two patients with long term numbness, and even that eventually went away.
