So I'm ftm and hoping to be able to start HRT sometime in November or so, but i've got a few concerns that i havent been able to get solid answers on. Mainly: How will testosterone affect my ibs. I have a crazy sensetive stomach, i'm constantly switching medications for my anxiety issues because they all tend to royally screw over my difestive system. I realize that hormones/hormonal suppliments aren't exactly your run of the mill "medications" so to speak, but I can't help but worry about it.
Basically I'm wondering if anyone here has a sensetive stomach/IBS, and has noticed a change (negative or positive) since taking testosterone, or since suppressing testosterone with estrogen. Any imput is appreciated!

I think if you change your diet and eat moderately healthy it might help relieve some of your symptoms. Your hormones will balance out and eventually your stress and anxiety may ease up some. I don't have IBS but I did have anxiety and stress issues. I feel a lot better after being on testosterone, but I still get grumpy and anxious but not as bad as it use to be. Just a thought.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I dunno.

I developed IBS as a symptom of fibromyalgia. Testosterone has had no effect on it whatsoever.

I did make some significant changes to my diet a few months after starting T/before top surgery to lose some weight, and this has helped. I'd strongly recommend doing a food diary if you haven't already and try to localize what makes your symptoms flare up (if it's not a constant state), and see if you can't eliminate things that make it worse than usual.

Hey, I have some pretty bad IBS. It has never been confirmed really but my IBS was uncovered / made a lot worse by MtF hormone therapy. I had always had occasional constipation and diarrhoea but after starting hormones, I had a whole lot of issues to worry about suddenly, like cramps, what I eat in the morning, carrying around painkillers/anti-inflammatories etc. My GP and I generally agree that the hormones uncovered an already existing IBS (just like how HRT always carries a risk of revealing or worsening conditions). He said it affects women more readily but I haven't seen this statistic anywhere. However, I am inclined to believe testosterone treatments may improve your symptoms. I'm not a doctor though.

I've had gastro issues, and things got better when I was on T. Not so much in the past year and a half or so because I'm not eating as I should (and I've been overextended and super-stressed to boot). But I expect that once I get a little more control over my life, my innards will go back to being moderately happy again.

For a while, I toyed with the possibility that the improvement was purely stress-related--as in, I started my transition and was so relieved that my innards felt better. But my observations have lent less credence to the idea that stress reduction alone is responsible.

I have crohns disease and (even though I've only been on T for a month) I feel better than I did before. I was in the middle of a mini flare up when I started and now I'm completely evened out. My doctor said T should help with my crohns related anemia problems. For reference I couldn't be on birth control or other "normal" hormonal meds because it gave me flare ups. But so far I've gotten nothing bad at all from T.
