Weight Gain on T?

Sam Alexei

I'm almost four months on T (I hit it on Monday!) and have seen quite a few changes.
One of which is that I gained about 20 pounds, from 140 to 160. I'm 5'9-5'10 for reference.
I've had more of an appetite, but I go to the gym almost every day and do cardio and weight training.
Is it normal to gain this much in such a short span of time? I was relatively twiggish beforehand with not much muscle so I think this may have been the culprit.
I'm a bit worried even though I still feel that I look fit.
Here's a photo of me from about a week ago if it helps. http://manic-pixie-dream-bro.tumblr.com/post/124268218987/off-to-the-gym-and-wearing-clothes-i-never-could

Thanks, friends!
On T since early March 2015.
Expected Top Surgery: Summer 2016.

You look very good.  Honestly, I would think that over time you may even appreciate more weight so that your waist/hip ratio decreases.

it's very normal and everyones body reacts differently. I use to weigh about 120 (5'6ish) before I started. Two years on it and I am constantly going between 152-160 and I'm not a big guy at all.  You've got nothin to worry about and you look great for 4 months. Just continue to work out and push yourself because now you have all this extra fluff that your body is going to gain and you wanna turn that into muscle.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I dunno.

Yes, it is lean body mass. I gained 25lbs, have since displaced 35lbs of fat (still roughly in my same weight/BMI but my body shape is very different from before; I'm basically going to have to replace ALL of my clothes pretty quick here). It's not just muscle gains though, your ligaments and tendons will also thicken... you'll also be putting on more bone density (weight, not mass). Men also tend to retain more water than women, directly because of the increased lean tissue mass. It all adds up. Don't sweat it unless or until your pants get snug lol.

You are ridiculously cute omg.

Ahem

Uh yeah probably just muscle. Shouldn't need to worry about it. Dang i feel so tiny compared to everyone. I'm 105lbs T_T

First, awesome name *fistbump*

Second, I concur with everyone else. Unless you are starting to feel/look "chubby" don't sweat it. And even if you do, it's important to try and be gentle with your body right now- it's experiencing a lot of big changes. Just keep up with healthy habits and try to roll with it.
"You either like me or you don't... it took me 20-something years to learn how to love myself. I don't have that kind of time to convince somebody else." -Unknown

starting t is basically like going through puberty again. you'll gain some baby fat, but it will shed off. keep working out and do your best not to overeat and you will be fine :)

one thing to consider: your body weight pre-t vs now will not be the same. it was difficult for me to accept, but i'm slowly realizing i am different. the gained weight will help you pass more.

and congratulations on four months!!

I've been on T for almost 2 years. My weight has stayed the same, but I look slimmer. Most of the weight has come from muscles growing. Especially if you've been working out, you will probably notice in due time that your muscles get larger even if you do not lift weights. So, yes weight gain can happen but not always necessarily in fat. On the otherhand, fat redistributes on T. Some parts might seem slimmer before such as your hips and backside. For me, it went to my gut and a bit around my neck. And it IS true (if you haven't had top surgery), that you can/might lose size on your manbooblets. I am pre-top and can confirm this as I've had to move down a size in binding.

Yes, appetite does indeed increase. The only thing to be mindful of if you are aiming to stay fit is healthy foods. Listen to your body. I've noticed along my journey that my preferences have changed and wants more protein and iron rich foods. It's probably because of the muscles growing. Everything eventually breaks down into glucose for mind/body functionality. Straight up sugar tends to go straight to fat stores. Lean protein is probably recommended as your body changes. In moderation as well, as too much turns into fat stores.

You'll be fine.
