I'm in south east Michigan. I'm looking for a primary care/family practice doctor that is trans friendly or has transgendered patients. Also, how about thearpists in the area to start off transition. I'm looking not just for the purpose of transgendered issues, but other medical issues i want to get checked out. I'm probably going to blurt out, for the first time, that I am trans and don't want to deal with any "old school" docs. What experience have you had with your primary care doc the first time you told them?

I see Dr. Kahn from the hfhs for my primary care.

I saw her for awhile before I had the courage to tell her. I was scared that she would drop me or something and I had to have a doc for school reasons so I waited awhile till that was finished before I mentioned it.

Anyways, a few months and a few visits after I started seeing her I told her I'm trans. She didn't blink and said, "so"? Was no big deal. I asked bout hrt and all that but she said she can't do that, but did refer me to someone who could, so she helped in a way.

Eventually started going there presenting female and again no issue. They did call me my birth name a few times tho, that was uncomfortable, but we talked about that at my last visit and they said that they wouldn't anymore.

Staff there is nice and friendly and she is easy to communicate with and get a hold of as well. Can get appointments pretty easy too. So ya, I'd recommend her if nearby her office.

I have had a lot of issues with therapists...I have gone to a couple and didn't think too highly of any of em. Finally got one to write me hrt letter after a super long struggle. Only good thing I can think of about him really is that he is free of charge, for me at least. Definitely cannot recommend him...

I see an Oakwood doctor in Dearborn, though as a primary care doctor I usually just see her annually for my required insurance check-up.  She didn't care at all that I was trans.  Wrote me a prescription for EMLA cream (for laser and electrolysis).  Also wrote me a referral letter for seeing a voice coach (the voice coach required the referral for some reason). Other doctors I see (Endo, voice, and therapists) are in the Ann Arbor area -- there are many good therapy options in Ann Arbor.  I'd be happy to pass along names if you are interested.   :)
Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than the ones you did. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
