The guns are not sharp like a piercer's needle. The needle cuts a hole while the gun presses a hole because it is blunt.

From what I've heard the piercing guns are also hard to sterilise. This results in a risk of blood born infection, in a worst case scenario HIV or hepatitis. This was the main reason why I chose not to do that again. Also, when I pierced my ears last time, the sound of the gun caused me to jump, resulting in a skewed angle of the hole.

When I went to Claire's, the guns and everything else were single-use, sealed until just before use.

That's great, maybe times have changed, my last experience with a piercing gun was > 10 yrs ago.

It is very different from place to place, some places they indeed use the same gun over and over again. And yes, that leaves the pierced person at risk of contracting blood born infections
