i was at my therapist's office and i went into the men's restroom, and although it was a single stall restroom, i felt good about it.

I went in to the men's room on july fourth at a very public place. I was going to go to the women's but i got hard core glared at by a security guard. That plus the fact that there were 6 ladies in front of me...i said "hell with it" and went to the men's. To my suprise there was literally one stall and 20 urinals.
Uhm??? Guys? Why is this a thing?

Urinals are faster. That's why women's restrooms would often have couches, chairs and long lines. Urinals virtually multiply bathroom space. This is one reason why gender less restrooms aren't catching on as quickly. There are many advantages ( for men, obviously) for men's restrooms to be separate with urinals.

They also save water since the amount per flush is less. Some are waterless in that they drain and don't flush.

When I was in primary school the urinal was basically a long drain along one wall. All the boys would go to it, up to 20 at a time and the stalls were basically unused. In fact they never had toilet paper.

I never went into a ladies room with couches and chairs...

Also I'm not really talking about urinating but how can guys wait that long to #2?

Think about how often you go #1 versus the 1-2 (healthy) times you go #2 in a day. It's a probability that most guys will need to pee much more often than actually use a stall, so the probability that more than 1-2 guys will need a stall at a time is far lower. It'd be silly to have 3-4 stalls and one urinal in a men's restroom. Heck I've been into bathrooms with one stall and one urinal, and that was in a mall.

I just one day ended up walking into the men's room. There would always be little girls in the women's room who would just stare quietly at me until I left, like they were afraid of me. I've never been comfortable going into the women's room anyway. The men's room just feels right.

Although I still try to avoid public bathrooms whenever possible. And I haven't used the locker room at my gym in over a month (I definitely don't pass well enough for a locker room situation).

I think i would have a lot less issue if they didn't close down all but two bathrooms (one mens and one womens) in a big outlet mall thing during the fourth of july. It was a riverfront where they hold the fireworks so i feel that was a very stupid decision.

It is common to only have one or two stalls (yes, I would be annoyed by seeing just one) But most have at least three. As for urinals, I think it's often just that bodily function occurs more frequently. So you see many more urinals than stalls.

I've seen them in quite a few. Not really a waiting room suite but some place to sit at least. But it's not universal for sure. There are also large makeup/vanity mirrors in some of them that are absent in the men's.

Most time guys go to the bathroom it's for #1. They also don't have to deal with menstruation so they don't occupy the stalls to change a tampon, etc. Really in a men's restroom it's just go in; whip it out, do your business and leave. Wash your hands (if even that, and yes, yuck.) 1-2 minutes at most.

Lol, last weekend I met with very nice and pleasant FtM guy for a cup of coffee in the shopping mall (previously, we only talked online so we wanted to look at each other in real life). It was 30 mins bike ride from my place, except I was smart enough to take a cup of coffee shortly before I left. And it was the opening day for the first Sports Direct chain shop in the country, so the mall was quite packed - and so were the restrooms too. I always think hard which one to use, but this time is was a no brainer, cause ladies' had a line. So, despite being far from andro, I rushed into men's and... all stalls were taken... and there were 3 urinals (gosh, I always hated them, but there was no way I was hanging around waiting for one of stalls.... that would draw some attention eventually). So, I took the urinal and then a guy comes up and takes No.3.... and then another one and takes No2. ... (so rule 1-3-5 gets cancelled).  I was so glad that everybody paid attention not to look at someone else, but I guess I still run out red-faced .

In my experience so far, if a guy uses a stall, he takes fricking forever in there. Maybe it's just college guys but if a stall is taken the guy is in there for about 5 minutes or more. It's infuriating because they aren't even pooping the whole time, they just sit there.

I never understood that. I guess some guys really afraid of mistakenly seeing another guys wang? Apparently, the answer is a resounding yes. I have no idea why, maybe they're afraid of being perceived as homo or they don't want to be embarrassed (size is a thing). I find it childish and often it would have been "any port in a storm" for me.

Yes. In the age of smartphones there is texting, web surfing and porn. Sometimes you hear guys audibly jerking off. One time I heard the lock sound (iPHone) in the stall next door followed by a flush. LOL!

One of my friend's is "pee shy" as he calls it. He gets nervous when there's other people around him so he just uses the stalls. I used to be like that when i was a kid. I wouldn't use the restroom if there was someone in there. Of course I've since grown out of it.

To be honest sometimes I look forward to the awkwardness in the men's room. One time I saw a naked man drying off... other times I've seen people just sitting naked on a toilet... or just staring at the mirror checking themselves out.. All kinds of things. lol

also guys who have piercings like prince alberts and the such have to sit down to pee.

just a thought there. you could say you're pierced.

That'll be me lol. I don't watch porn (some occasions at home maybe) but I'll often get lost on Facebook or playing games on my phone while doing a #2  although I've very often heard the odd guy chatting away on his phone while in a stall
