Hi there,

I was wondering if I could get some assistance with understanding the meanings behind the colours and/or symbols on some of the gender flags? A lot of the ones I have found originate from Pride Flags For Us, and I asked them if they had any resources on this, and while they did not, they gave me a generalization of the colour meanings.

I am attempting to write up some informative blog posts about various gender identities, and I'd like to be as accurate as possible. I tried, for example, to write up a description regarding the ambigender flag, but I'm just not certain I am 100% correct.

I was hoping to be able to post various flags here and get some feedback from others? It would be highly appreciated!

Well this sounds like another cool way to let your true colors wave in the wind!  Good for you and yes please do share your work here, it sounds fun.

Sometimes our many labels can be confusing more than illuminating and a color scheme with pictures may just be worth a thousand words? :D

I think you may need to have 15 or more posts before you can post pictures tho?

Alright, well maybe I will just post links to them then?

Here is a link the ambigender flag, and, given what I know about the gender, I came up with this for an explanation (PLEASE by all means correct me!!)

"This ambigender flag was created at Pride Flags For Us and I've come to the conclusion that the pink represents female/femininity, the blue represents male/masculinity, and the lighter-blue was made to represent a colour between pink and the dark blue shade. It was also mentioned to me that this light blue color, according to the color wheel, is actually closer to green than it is dark blue, and green may represent the nonbinary community. This could thus mean that ambigendered individuals may experience a nonbinary identity in addition to the two binaries. The fact that all 3 colours blend into one another represents the idea that ambigendered individuals feel a mixture of both the binary genders simultaneously, rather than having a definitive "maleness" or "femaleness" – if so, the colours would clearly be separate, rather than blending into one another."

What do you think? I'm basing this off of a little explanation that pride flags for us gave me about the general meanings of colours.

Hey, Brenda.

It's honestly taking a decent amount of work to put together stuff for each gender, and to find valuable information on the "lesser-known" genders. For example, I've found FAR more on agender than I have ambigender.

It's kind of fun though. I'm bipolar and the medication lately is making me want to remain indoors as I have no energy for anything lately. So I spend a lot of time "researching" and googling, with Netflix on in the background. But it's taking soooooo long - I've only completed agender, aliagender (wrote about its problematic issues), androgyne, and ambigender. It's been like 2 weeks of just trying to figure stuff out lolol

That sounds like a very useful project you're working on Brenda  :)

Yes I agree that all the different flags can seem confusing at first, but there is nothing like the joy of discovering your own flag.

Thanks :) And that's what I'm going to try to convey - that although we may not understand completely what the flags and their colours represent, the simple fact that some individuals get so much joy out of discovering said flag and or gender is all that matters!
