That is great!

I was very nervous when I first went and was terrified to say things aloud that I had only just allowed myself to think. However, for me, it has been so useful. Almost additive.

I don't want to tell you what to do  but complete honesty was what helped me, I think. I don't have to revise anything by hedging bets or saying what I thought she wanted to hear.

You'll know what to do. I will stop.

Good luck and have a smooth journey.

With warmth,

Joanna

My 1st appointment was supposed to be 50 minutes and it went for an hour and 10 min and I talked for probably an hour and 8 minutes. My advice is just to let it all go with the therapist, there is no reason to hold anything back. There are very few exceptions to the therapist/client confidentiality standard. I could've kept talking for another hour or 2 but at this point I've been diagnosed with gender dysphoria and I'm not sure where the therapy will go from here. My 2nd appointment is tomorrow.

Congratulations. You will find once you start talking to the therapist it will get easier to keep talking and opening up. That's how it went for me anyway.

Hope it goes well for you.

Congrats, I'm so proud of you. I can remember the day when I worked up the nerve to contact the therapist the first time. I was so nervous, but I quickly discovered they don't bite. You will be just fine. I hope that turns out to be the case for you too. Hugs

Quick question for anyone still reading this, how long does it typically take for a therapist to contact you back?

Micah,

If they have not gotten back to you by now, you should reach out again. It sometimes takes a few days but it should not take that long.

It may seem like you used up all your courage to make the first calls(I had to make three sets of them and was so tempted to give up-so glad I didn't)

Good luck and stick with it.

With warmth,

Thanks Joanna, I am just kind anxious sometimes this is something that needs to be taken care of, I just don't want to lose hope last one I contacted was on two days ago so maybe I should just wait a bit longer

As it's Friday, you could wait till Monday.

I would move on Monday if you don't hear by noon.  Not to be too pushy but it is important for any of us.

Good luck and I hope you have things to keep your mind occupied on other things for the week end.

With warmth,

Joanna
