Just an out-of-curiosity question haha

What factors determine what your voice will sound like when you start testosterone? Is there any way to predict such?

Can I look to the voice depth of other family members? My height? My current voice?

My doctor told me that one's voice typically drops around an octave. After about a year and a half, mine has dropped almost that much, according to a friend who's a serious singer. So where it ends up pretty much depends on where it starts -- if you're a soprano, you're unlikely to end up as a bass.

I can now sing along with baritones on the car stereo -- especially if they sing a little off-key.

I don't think there's any way to tell, nor do I think there's any rule like the one octave etc. I've heard some guys who started off with a mousey female voice have their voices go really deep. I hoped to be one of them, as I didn't start off with a particularly high voice, but alas I was not blessed with the voice of my dreams.

I do recall reading in various places that males' voices generally drop about one octave during puberty (and females, 1/3 of an octave), but that's more of a guideline than a rule. You can't accurately predict the pitch of your voice on T.

Here's hoping for more than an octave.

I had the tiniest highest girliest voice ever--and biggest source of my dysphoria. It's better now, but not quite where I'd like it.

My voice sounds EXACTLY like my dad and brother so, I'd say look at family members.

I don't think there's really any way of determining exactly what your voice will sound like, especially considering the change is different for everyone. But if it's of any help, mine sounds the same as it did before, only deeper (if that makes sense). Same inflections, same sound (idk what else to call it, but for example mine is nasal), etc.

use an app to see what your voice frequency is now, and then you can compare it later on.

i used praat on my laptop.
try typing in 'voice frequency' instead. i know that one popped up when i tried, but i didn't have the patience to figure it out. there are also paid apps. i think that mtfs also use an app to practice their tone...? not sure if any trans ladies are reading this, but if you are, do you know an app!?

I found a ¢99 app called Frequency Counter Pro for iPhone. My voice measured at around 156hz.

I also found some really great charts that map out which voice frequencies people recognize as feminine and which ones people recognize as masculine, and about how low the voice drops on T. I will create a new topic with these helpful guides included!
