Hi there.

Do you have any tips for me for passing? I'm only out to one friend, my girlfriend, and my therapist **and to you lovely internetters :). My next step is to try going into a public space and see how it feels to pass to strangers. I'm worried that I won't be able to pass and won't be able to experience this crucial step.

Whaddya think? In this picture I'm wearing my binder and packer.

Definitely pass! You'll probably be nervous the first few times, but the more you go into public (and especially the more times you're gendered correctly), the more comfortable you'll become.

im not on t yet but i've been gendered correctly in public twice (before they heard my voice) and im not sure if it was because of eyesight since the two people who called me "he" were around 70-80 so im still pretty unsure if i do or not

Wow, I love your haircut. You pass to me!

I also had my hair bleached for some time and found that I passed substantially less for some reason..

My voice also tends to give me away sometimes but I try to emulate voice patterns and lower it as much as I comfortably can, which helps. But then again I end up passing as a 14-15 year old boy or sometimes even younger due to looks and voice.

If you're concerned about your voice there are youtube videos on how to lower it. It won't go down as much as T will make it but it may help. Good luck!  :)

P.S. Don't forget to be confident. It goes a long way.

I apologize for the double post, but I was curious: How well does my body pass?

(Please do not quote the picture, as I want to take it down eventually.) The parts where my shirt juts out is extra fabric, it just happens when the shirt bunches up.

I have a pretty masculine face and all but my hips are huge and sometimes hinder my passing ability. It's even worse in the summer as I don't have many options to layer up.

On a side note, I've started training again recently and feel really good about myself. I'm still twiggy and short but at least I'm a little bit less twiggy than I was a year ago!  :D

Maleth, your body looks good! Even though it's not toned or anything, your shoulder to hip ratio is spot on! One of the most important things when passing! :) Maybe your hips looks different in other outfits or without clothes, but from this picture it looks really good (I also have hips that look completely different in clothes, so I know how it is).

With some daily pushups and shoulder exercises, you can achieve a strong, masculine triangle shape in no time! Then you'll have to worry even less about your hips! :) I think you're at a great starting point for a workout regime.

I think if your face passes, I personally wouldn't do a double take at your body. Looks like a typical cis guy shape to me.

How old are you? I think you have kind of an androgynous look, but you could pass for a young boy if it weren't for the piercings (not that you should take them out, but not a lot of young boys have piercings so that's something that might steer someone away from thinking that). It's kind of hard to tell from the angle of these pictures, though.

Hey guys,

It's my first time posting here and I'm feeling a bit awkward, but whatever, here goes nothing!

Please refer to my avatar for this post. I don't have any full length shots as A) my arms aren't long enough, B) I don't have a full mirror and C) I'd have to ask someone else to take the picture and as someone who generally dislikes photographs it'll likely be questioned for being "out of character". Okay enough whining, it'd be great if I could get some feedback just based off the face picture, if that's okay for now?

I'm pre-T and for the most part get gendered as male provided I keep my mouth closed (as in, I don't talk) and provided none of my family members call me she, daughter, sister or granddaughter while I'm the only one nearby. That's getting annoying, and hopefully will stop once I get a voice drop induced by T... if it doesn't, well I'll work on that then. Anyway, misgendering because I talked is all fine and dandy as I'm not really a big talker out in public, let alone private.

On occasion I do get read as female which does bother me somewhat. I understand that with my body size/weight it's going to be harder to hide things like wider hips and not so flat chests (I do bind, though it isn't 100% flattening). Are there things I can do in the meantime to increase the likelihood of me passing? I'm in need of a haircut again, I previously had a faux hawk style cut but I never styled it. I found out the other day (when my avatar pic was taken) that putty tames the fluffy look my hair gets when I wash it, so that's great. Yes my face is roundish looking both due to weight and genetics. I'm working on losing weight... but ah, that's one tough battle with health issues.

Clothes wise, I tend to wear mostly black/dark coloured masculine clothes and avoid full length pants, instead favouring knee length cargos or denim shorts (my legs are way too short for the 32" mens jeans that seem to get sold everywhere). I do have a sewing machine and have hemmed stuff before, so if longer pants help I can get on that. As my proportions are typical to a more feminine body shape (in my opinion anyway), I'm worried that if I continue to use mens bathrooms (I get stares and comments in the womens) I'm going to get clocked and have more than some comments thrown my way. I feel horrible thinking that people would do that, but hey, anxiety is fun! ._.

Mannerism wise, I probably do have a few stereotypically feminine traits such as talking with hands, ending my sentences with a higher pitch (or is that an Aussie thing?), and being a doormat when it comes to assertiveness.

Long story short, does my avatar/face pass? XD

Hey Venom,

I have the same problem about my voice in public. The times I actually do get a "sir" in public, I'll speak and people get flustered and "correct" themselves. It can be frustrating, but T should help with that. Pre-T I've heard of some guys having luck doing vocal exercises and such.

I wouldn't over stressed about your mannerisms or style. (Though it's awesome you know how to hem pants, I just have to roll my up.) Just be confident in yourself and who you are. I know that's hard to do, but still worth trying.

Personally I think you pass great in your avatar shot. Even though you say your face is rounder, it doesn't look femininely round to me. (Hope that makes sense) And I think your hairstyle works well for you.

Thanks AbeLane, I appreciate your feedback! My hair was quite a bit shorter than I usually have it when I first got it cut, but since it's grown out it's in-between a bit too long and just right length wise. When I don't use product/putty stuff it sits on my face... so I've started using product, and my hair stays put!

The voice thing can be a bit upsetting, especially if people get flustered and make a deal out of it, like you've experienced. I haven't had people correct themselves in an overt manner before, though I have had people refer to me with neutral words (like person), then use lady after I speak. Somewhat frustrating, but hey, T will likely help with that as you've also said. Your on T now aren't you? All the best with hrt! If they start calling me mate or buddy (typically used in reference to masculine appearing people in my part of the world), they either drop the use of mate or buddy afterwards or continue using it. Hmm; it's mostly guys that use mate and buddy now that I think of it. Haven't been sir'd yet, though that could be due to my age. Beats me.

Aha, confidence, we meet again! Unfortunately confidence is a big issue for me, depression and anxiety make that difficult. However, I have noticed since I received my updated birth certificate after a legal name change that I am more confident in myself. Contacting all these places to update my name has been an all round positive experience which has helped that a lot. As for the other confidence problems, I'm in therapy (for depression/anxiety) and it's something I am working on. Nonetheless, I do appreciate your recommendation not to stress too much about it! 8)

Yep, it makes perfect sense to me and thank you there as well! I've lost a lot of the "baby fat" but still have a fair amount of normal fat, but I'm working on losing some weight which should help with it. T might help as well with masculising facial shape with redistribution of fat, but I'm not going to hold out for much there. All in all thank you very much for your feedback.  :D

I'm pre everything. I feel like my hips are such an issue and my face is just...babyish =_="
Excellent advice floating around
@Goblinboy: I think you pass and you remind me of the dudes I hung out with in school to boot. You have great eyebrows too. Maybe consider shaving the sides of your noggin down a bit? Your hair in the second pic is 100% babe central.

it might be the angle, but i feel like you pass more in the first photo. the second one gives off myspace girl vibes to me... lol. your hair definitely suits you, though! don't worry about your hips; t will help with that. meanwhile, do some shoulder exercises to broader your shoulders...so they're more aligned with your hips!

The barber misunderstood "trim so it looks neat and i can go back to school with my usual slicked back side part" and now I feel a bit bald and I worry I wont pass as well... I go back to school tomorrow and I am scared someone will misgender me because I have seen lesbians with this hair style and I know from all those sites that talk about passing that with my weak and girly facial structure people are more likely to think "lesbian" than "boy" and idk. Do I still pass?

@MenoImagination, I actually really like that hairstyle on you, and I don't think it hinders your passing ability one bit. Also, I don't know what you mean by "weak and girly facial structure," you've got a jawline I could practically cut myself on. Super jealous of that angular shape, dude.
