Only just plucked up the courage to join.
I'm AFAB (unfortunately), 23 and have struggled for those 23 years knowing that I was in the wrong body. This year I finally had to accept that I was trans. I'd appreciate it if you used male pronouns.

I've only managed to come out to one person and for various reasons cannot properly transition but I'd love to be able to pass on a day-to-day basis. I've done a bit of cross dressing but I need help with it!

I live in London btw if there's any other Londoners around!  :3

Hi Littlespottedcat, welcome to Susan's. Congrats on having come out to one. Sorry that your not able to transition properly. I hope you get the chance, if you want it, some day to be able to though. I look forward to seeing you around the forums. Good luck and Hugs

Thanks all! What I'd ideally like at the moment is some real help with crossdressing and how to pass a bit better. My face is really quite feminine so I don't know how to handle it. It would be good if I could actually post a pic and get tips but anonymity and all...

Welcome to Susan's Place. We can look at your image/voice and make suggestions. One complaint that FTM have when they attempt this is they look like 12 year old boys but that still is reality. When I was very young, we had a couple who lived next door to us and they had two daughters with the oldest about 8 years old. The husband alway had his wife go to the liquor store because every time he went they carded him as he looked so young. We moved away before I learned what he looked like when he aged but it brings up thoughts of an older woman running around with a younger man  :o
Let us know when you are ready to start working on it.

Ah, that's totally my problem!  As a female, I look about 14 (seriously,  I was IDed for being under 16 at the weekend) so as a guy it's even worse :(

I'll try and take a non-horrendous pic later. Where's the best place to post?

Well if you are concerned about anonymity you might use a graphics program to insert a square over the eyes for example...

and you can upload a picture on a picture host, link the picture to your thread and take down the picture from the picture host later.

All right, here goes. I don't know if it's better to make an entirely new thread but I'll dump it here for now.

(Does it show up sideways for you guys also or just on my phone?)

My body is okish - I'm 5'8" and barely an A-cup (think I have a binder somewhere). I've been doing some weights on my arms so they're a little less girly in shape.

Because I'm so fair,  I can't really see a way to do stubble or anything either. So yeah :/

Most of the time I am helping people gain the other look so this is a bit for a problem for me. A short haircut would help but if the hair needs to stay for now or even if you do get a cut, then play around with hats like a billed hat or around where I live, a cowboy hat might help. Also consider a masculine set of clear glasses if you wear them or a set of sun glasses. I am not sure if its the lighting or you skin color but if your skin is as pale as it appears in the picture, you might want to play around with skin bronzers as well. Try them out in a place that doesn't show at first before using them on your face to see if you like the look before you commit to more color.

You also haven't said anything about your voice. If you are a singer, you need to work on talking in you chest voice. If you don't know what a chest voice is, it is relaxing the area above your larynx when you talk. It won't give you a male voice but it might put you into the questionable range where people will look for other clues to gender you with.

Some of the guys might have more advice because like I said, I haven't done before.

You might try a ponytail... mabe not bind straight back but a little loose on the sides...
you could try to avoid bangs... bangs are advised for mtf people...

the pic is sideways :)

concerning boobs (not visible in the pic) you might try baggy tshirts... button down shirts.. or shirts with darker colour which tend to hide the surface...
or patterned shirts...

I wouldn't go all dark with style because it might influence mood... a few bright spots could help  :)

Thanks for the help. A hat/glasses is definitely something to try.

And Dena, I am that pale.  I'm the whitest white person to ever white :|

I read somewhere that concerning voice,  guys tend to speak a little more monotonously - I don't know if that's true.  I guess I have to work on my voice - again it's pretty girly.

Clothing can be a big part of being passable at someone's first glance, I think. I knew a youtuber a loong time ago who had such excellent voice tutorials for just simple raising/lowering, but their channel disappeared one day  :icon_sadblinky:
Then again! If people question you, you could always just say "Is there a problem with (whatever the issue is)?" and, in my experience with peers in school at least, they tend to be like 'No, I was just curious' or something to the effect of that. Who knows? You're you, that's the important part.

You could have a look here:
https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,189452.msg1687880.html#msg1687880

You can record your voice, read from a book and then listen to it. You can try different methods, and listen to the results. It takes time, have some patience. Don't go too low with your voice and never overstrain your voice. Just stop then. And you might drink some water to moisten the throat.

You are correct about monotone males. I have to be aware of putting more inflection in my voice because it's not natural for most males and that's something at the hormones don't help going my direction. You don't want to go all the way monotone but listen to male voices and try to imitate their speech pattern.
