I have a question on wearing patches for HRT.  I have been on the Climara patch for 3 months now.  The directions say to wear on abdomen or buttocks, but NOT on breasts.  I understand why you would not wear them on your breasts, but are there other places to wear them besides the abdomen and buttocks?  I would really like to try wearing one on the bottom of my feet.  Is that feasible?  I do wear on the back of my thigh and seem to get the same benefits as the abdomen and buttocks.

My friend wears one on her glute for menopause. It left a big-ol' discolored mark on her skin.

I have had the patch for almost 4 years now. I wear mine on my butt. I have to change them every 3to4days. I usually change on Thursday and Sunday. The right side on Sunday and the left on Thursday. I did it that way as to remember that the religious right get together on Sundays and the left get together on any day that they can. I do like the patch, but its not for everyone. Some are allergic to the glue that is on the patch, some just can't wear it as it doesn't stick on them or for other reasons. It works great for me.

As for WHERE, I'd stick (ha!) with the manufacturers recommendations. As Kiera said, Climara has a study that shows it works best on the buttocks.

It's your imagination.  The time needed to warm up the patch, have the estradiol migrate through your skin and distribute itself through your body takes several hours.

The reason the drug companies specify where to apply the patches is because those are the places they have tested the patches.  If you apply it somewhere else, it might not work as well.  They basicly say if you do that you're on your own.  They only guarantee results they have tested.
