I waited 3 months to get an appointment with an endo to start T. The appointment is on August 18th. I just got a letter from the doctor's office saying that he will be leaving his practice (and the state) at the end of August so he recommends that anyone with appointments after Aug 31 get a referral. Obviously I will have to do that, but I plan to see him on the 18th anyway because I don't want to wait another few months to see someone else.

But my concern is that since I am just starting T, is the Dr likely to give me enough of a supply to get me through until I find/see another doctor? This endo was recommended to me by my therapist. I'll ask around my local trans community for other recommendations but who knows how long it will take to get an appt.

I don't want to be negative, but it might be worse than that. He wont' be around to monitor you and adjust your dosages, so he might either refuse to start you altogether, or just give you a really low dose.

Perhaps you can see a normal doctor for a while if the endo get you started and gives you some kind of plan.

With medications I generally ask for as large a prescription as they are prepared to give me. Its only a bit of paper and free until I use it. I also ask what the maximum safe dosages are, how to tell if something is going wrong, how to adjust it, etc.

where are you located?

I'm curious as to where you live as well as I just found out my endo in Roanoke is retiring (though I have no idea if he's leaving the state.) Don't remember what date but I know if you have the initial prescription and you are in this area I can potentially find another MD willing to continue. If not through professional contacts and phone calls I can get in touch with the local support group and see what they are doing.

Sorry for the delay in responding, I don't know how to get notified of new answers to my questions and didn't realize there were more. Anyway, I am in Wisconsin. I found out that there was another doctor in the same practice who has a lot of trans patients, so I was able to make an appointment right away. (In fact it was today!)
