"Transgender activists will go on hunger strike unless Department of Corrections moves a trans woman from Rimutaka Prison to a women's facility.

It comes after reports the prisoner, "a strong woman", has had to front up to threats in the men's prison.

About 10 members of No Pride in Prisons will launch the hunger strike on Karangahape Rd in Auckland on Thursday, spokeswoman Jennifer Shields said."

If the hunger strike works, Ill be amazed.

I just cant get it out of my head that, "If they starve themselves to death, it will be less problembs for us" Is going to be the respoce to this. Sorry just dont think harming ourselves will work.

While I agree with the logic, I don't think it works that way in practice. It causes the authorities lots of problems by keeping it in the news and making them look bad.

There's a long history of hunger strikes around the world, and its effective at least some of the time.
