"The National Organisation for Marriage – which was forced to disclose this week that it is secretly funded by Catholic donors – asked all Republican candidates to pledge support for a new constitutional amendment defining marriage as between a man and a woman – voiding the thousands of existing same-sex weddings across all 50 states...

Rick Santorum, Senator Ted Cruz, Dr Ben Carson, and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal all agreed with the group's mission to strip gay people of their basic rights to marriage and protection from discrimination."

 

Well, I'd like to say I'm shocked that presidential candidates can openly go against a constitutional ruling...but I'm not...it's less than shocking from the modern republican party...

None of these individuals are actually going to get a candidacy and this might show you why Trump has a shot at the presidency...because this is his competition.  Sad days.

I don't like what they promised to do, don't get me wrong, but asking for a constitutional amendment is the only legal solution any of the opposition have proposed. It won't happen, the bar is too high for the numbers they have, but it's legal.

It's not like any of those guys stand a chance of getting elected, anyway.  Santorum and Carson are basically unelectable because of their religious views.  You might be able to openly spout extreme religious views as a political tactic in local elections, but that just isn't going to work for a nationwide general election.

As far as the other two, Cruz is as extreme longshot and Jindal isn't really well liked or taken very seriously.  The chance of either of those two becoming president is almost non-existent.  Cruz suffers from a lot of the same flaws as Santorum, and Jindal doesn't present himself very well.

If you tried to write this stuff into the plot of a novel readers would say it was too far fetched to be believable 

I was just wondering if they were trying to position themselves for the VP spot.

There is no chance in hell that those baphoons will get the constitution amended.  It's very difficult to amend the US constitution.  Republicans are their own worse enemy.

Republicans remind me of bullies in Middle School.

The Supreme Court has ruled. This is just sound bite BS.

You know it almost seems like some of the GOP candidates are trying to out do each other. I thought the goal was to get people to like you not tick them off.

What they're trying to do is amend the Constitution to overturn the ruling, which is extremely unlikely to be successful given what it takes to do so.
