Judge OKs gender surgery opposed by 48-year-old's parents

"DOYLESTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A judge in Pennsylvania has cleared the way for a 48-year-old transgender woman to receive gender-reassignment surgery.

The judge late Wednesday rejected an effort by Christine Kitzler's parents to have her ruled incompetent and to have her plans for the operation at least temporarily halted."

If her parents had won the suit and denied her surgery, they should be held for neglect, for denying her needed medical care.

She's 48. Forty-flipping-eight years old... that is just mind boggling that her parents would try to stop her when she is a grown woman.

Nobody and I mean nobody apart from God almighty is stopping me. And mom supports me so that's a non issue.

It's sad that her parents would step in and try to stop her with a court case because of what THEY want which is their "son" back. They even drug out tired old tropes about mental illness and coercion from her medical people. Just wow.

I guess it never occurred to her parents that her mental problems were caused by her being trans and transitioning is the cure for that. Maybe some of her problems were caused by whatever family dynamic that led to this court case - the parents are obviously controlling and IMO she needs to walk away from them with a quickness and never look back. They are toxic.

She said that if her parents prevailed in this case (do they even have a legal standing in the case?) that she would resume drinking herself to death, and apparently that is preferable to her parents instead of her doing what she needs to do to survive. They must think that it is the worst thing imaginable to have a live transgender daughter and having a dead "son" is much better. Some twisted thinking there.

The judge had to admonish the dad to use feminine or gender neutral pronouns after the dad kept calling her "him" and "he".

The ignorance and bigotry of her parents is unbelievable. And good job by the judge - cases like this mean that we are making progress.

And for all that is neutral "that person" of all things?

whats wrong with, my child? the way I see it is, if "my child" wasnt the first neutral thing they though of to refference their child by, then they obviously are not looking out for them as "THAT PERSONS" perants.

I honestly dont think, that this despute was motivated with parental concern in mind. And was most likely to have been motivated with a religious agenda. Meaning they were only doing this beacos their church said they gotta.
