Caitlyn Jenner, in an interview with Ellen DeGeneris, comes across as mildly resistive to gay marriage, and still strongly attached to her politically conservative roots.

So she's against letting herself get married? Ooook

News flash, Caitlyn- you were IN gay marriages all along.  *facepalm*

In my experience, politics trail our transitions by a few years. Sooner or later, we figure it out and follow our own interests, or not. I have friends who completely stymie me with their attitudes in some areas. But isn't that what makes life interesting? Diversity.

In my opinion it's a "gotcha" by Ellen for Caitlyn because she is a Republican. There has been a lot of hate directed at her because she is a Republican. Some are trying hard to discredit her because she is not a liberal democrat.

I'm not a flag waving, gay pride parade marching LGBT activist either. But if people want to get married, good for them. They should be able to get married line anyone else. Isn't that what we wanted? For people to just have their rights and we just move on? I would like that. The marriage issue is a done deal pretty much now. Time to move on.

I doubt my politics are going to change as long as either side supports the things they do. I view LGBT rights as non-partisan, and an issue of equal protection under the Constitution. It is not a partisan issue. As of 2013, 10 Democratic senators did not support same sex marriage either. A good few prominent Republicans such as George H.W. Bush, Laura Bush, Dick Cheney (who has a gay daughter) support gay marriage. Log Cabin Republicans is a Republican gay rights organization. Pink Pistols is a gay gun rights group (something else which should be non-partisan). Chris Christie signed a ban on gay conversion therapy. Generally the loud religious right like Huckabee have been dominating the conversation on the GOP side but that doesn't mean that it is a universal view.

I feel like political parties and ideologies are just as limiting as strictly-defined sexuality and gender labels.  I've always had the mindset of "believe what you want to believe and don't try to fit into somebody else's mold."  It seems strange for someone to be open-minded about their gender and sexuality and yet still fall into one of those boxes, but I guess everybody believes what they want to believe.

Absolutely. I'm an independent and don't fall into either box.

I consider myself a conservative. I want to conserve our rights, our national resources, our planet, our people, our health care, our national budget, and especially.... I want to conserve how much we spend on the military and be a lot more conservative on how we use it.

With all that conserving in mind, that makes me a liberal. Go figure.

Coming out trans, yet still not be for equality?

Caitlyn is still very new at this - as an example, on the most recent "I Am Cait" show she was dithering over whether or not to use her old name for a country club application, mainly because of the guys she used to play with at the club. Candis Cayne called her out on it, correctly pointing out that she is trying to play both sides and she can't do that.

I think that Caitlyn is still uncomfortable with some aspects of who she is - the topic of gay marriage seems to be one of those things. If she likes women and wants to be married to a woman in the future she will have to deal with her uneasiness of the subject. Her new life will force a re-evaluation of her views and attitudes. I went through the same process.

I suspect that as time passes and she grows into her authentic self she will move more toward the center on things.

Jeez people, give her time! Even Christians don't criticize each other after being reborn...which is seen as an instantaneous event, but old habits die hard.

Forgive her "sins" against the stereotypical LGBTetc "community".

Ok... I REALLY DISLIKE HER. First she makes stupid comments about trans women and prostitution, then she talks about some trans women abusing government assistance so they don't have to work, then the fact that she's a republican itself, and now this, I can't. SHE DOES NOT DESERVE to be someone this relevant for the trans community right now, she's neither a good role model, nor a good representation.

I find myself in total agreement with Serena! That is weird. *giggles*

There are many people here of various political ideologies. Caitlyn is entitled to her own beliefs. So is everybody else.

I would definitely lean to your way of thinking on this but I'm a little suspicious that some of this is reality show fake conflict that is intended to be resolved or moderated by the end of the season.  Is the fact that she's not making predictable comments a way to grab ratings?

Or could the creators be using this as a clever way to reach people who have closed minds on transgender issues?  If a transgender person is closer to their reality could this make them more understanding?

Caitlyn keeps talking smack about the "community" as if it is something extraneous from her, and somewhere she doesn't feel like she belongs to, in another interview she said that "I'm way more lenient with pronouns, etc... than the community, and I understand that (cis) people don't get it sometimes", that's some privileged talk right there, and she's siding with the cisgender population too, she's said it in a tone like we are being mean or bad for wanting the right pronouns to be used etc... As someone said already she was gonna use her old name to register to a  club, and she's just too new at this to get all this attention, she DOESN'T deserve, I have to admit when I started I said some stupid bull too, but now I am more informed, and she can't speak, and I am sorry but I think she doesn't deserve the attention nor awards neither. Bring someone better.

Eh, it doesn't bother me. She's new at this, and I don't think she should be burdened with any "spokesperson" for the "community" role.

Seriously, I'm thrilled to see so many transgender people come out in recent years. But in my experience, once someone has finished with transition, he or she vanishes. Just look at how people leave this site after transition. That is representative at how close we stick together. I'm not trying to by cynical, just observant. Most of us just want to be part of society and not stick out on the social fringe.

I'm still here because when I transitioned available support resources were non existent. I don't want anyone to have to endure that sort of loneliness.
