I believe that every problem between people is because we think WE KNOW BETTER.
We are always tempted to interfere, and sometimes it seems only right to do so. If one person is trying to force another, is it wrong to interfere? Is it less wrong than not interfering? Sometimes (often) I'm tempted to interfere, but is it right?
We collect ourselves into groups, small or large, that believe (mostly) the same things, that validate our own half understandings and call that "ultimate truth". Then, collectively, we try to impose our beliefs on others FOR THEIR OWN GOOD. But I don't believe these things are "ultimate truth". I don't believe that human beings are capable of comprehending "ultimate truth". I think that, if some Source, some Deity, some Higher Power handed us "ultimate truth" on a silver platter, as many people believe has happened, we'd still get it wrong.
There is really only one thing on which any of us is an authority. Each of us is an authority on ourselves. Not a perfect authority, but more of an authority than anyone else can possibly be. When it comes to a conflict and I think the other person should do things my way, I bow to authority. Mostly. I'm not perfect. Sometimes I mess that up. See paragraph one.
But then, this is just what I believe.
