Top surgery recovery? Could I go back to school in 10 days?

Still in high school, but my parents are supporting and are willing to get me top surgery. I'd like to have it ASAP (who wouldn't?), but idk how long it'd take.

I'm a minor, but I could get a letter from my therapist for it. If I could do that, could I realistically get my top surgery booked this summer? Wishful thinking, probably, but summer seems like the only time I could get it done with school in the way. I don't want to have to wait another year (been waiting 3 years already). So, could I get it booked over, say, Christmas vacation next year(about 10 days) and come back to school mostly recovered? I could get excused from gym, and other than that I do no other physical activities.

How long does it take to book top surgery, and how long is the recovery time? I just really don't want to wait another summer, the dysphoria is killing me.

I'm pretty sure my insurance covers it btw.

Booking will vary by surgeon. If you have a general idea of when you'd like to have it and you are well in advance of the date, most will probably be willing to work with you. I scheduled mine about 3 months out. Keep in mind that traditional holiday periods will probably get booked up faster (so summer, winters).

Recovery also varies person to person. I'd try to book it at the beginning of your summer vacation to be safe. Most surgeons say it takes between 4-6 weeks to return to all normal activities. Ten days would probably be pushing it for most people.

I'd get in touch with your insurance provider first. They may have requirements you have to fulfill in order to provide coverage.

in short: no. i am currently 3 weeks and 1 day post op and there are still things i struggle with. with nerves reconnecting, sometimes the smallest bump to my chest hurts; but the pain subsides quickly. you're not permitted to lift over 10lbs for a few weeks, and cannot resume 'heavy' exercise until 6-8 weeks.

booking top surgery can be a lengthy process— it was for me. i initially called in april (of this year) and i had to fax my info and wait to hear back. after that (a few days) i was able to send in photos, to determine which surgery i would have. it took around one month for him just to review them and tell me what he would do—this costed $65. after that i had to wait for his schedule to open up, which took another 3 months. i received an email in early july and was informed that dr. medalie's schedule opened up. i was given dates only one month out...but typically it's a longer wait.

medalie's work is truly art. obviously this will sound biased, but i am extremely happy with my results. thin scars, minimal swelling, a little bit of bruising, and overall it was a smooth process. i did have a few hold ups, but that was more so my mistake than anything.

I could have but I'm the exception not the rule. I was good once I got my drains out. I could have gone back to school if I had my stuff carried by someone else. Which my school does allow if someone is injured.

i did. i had my surgery over the march break and went back to school the week school started again. i took 4 weeks off work though because i have a physically demanding job. it wasn't hard for me to go to school but then again, i only had one class and it was only 2 hours long. it wasn't hard though like, recovery. i ended up being able to do everything i used to do as soon as my drains were out. just lifting my arms above my head was difficult for a few weeks still. even though i COULD do a lot of stuff, i decided not to so i didn't stretch my scars or mess with my stitches. i slept on my back for about a month.
