"(RNS) The Association of Certified Biblical Counselors is planning what it calls evangelical Christians' first-ever conference on transgender issues.

But don't expect to hear from any transgender voices at the conference."

The only thing that really surprises me is that they are having a conference in the first place.

I reject the notion that gender identity can change too.  I certainly tried long and hard enough to change mine.  I expect though that my notion and their notion are polar opposites.

Deborah,

I totally get what you are saying. I suspect you are correct about polar opposites. It is lines like these following that I am commenting on.

But don't expect to hear from any transgender voices at the conference.

The association will co-sponsor "Transgender Confusion and Transformational Christianity" with the Council on Biblical Manhood and Womanhood on Oct. 5 on the campus of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.

All the speakers have agreed to a statement published last year that rejects "that a human being could possess a gender other than the one indicated by biological sex."

Ah well. We keep trying.

First prize for the worst headline. When I read this, I thought, "Oh wow, they're debunking conversion therapy." Then I read the article. Now I want to ritually sacrifice someone.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

Because these people clearly know better than we do about what's best for us?  *rapid fire facepalms until forehead concave*

Typical plump self satisfied smug 'John-coat-and-ties' who think they know us better than we know ourselves.  Grrrrr...

Exactly. This doesn't seem to be so much a conference on exploring ways to provide compassionate pastoral care as it is a bolstering of their own closely held bias.

Sad. Another opportunity for real spiritual growth gone down the drain because of prejudice and bigotry.

Gender Identity is as much a valid belief as Christianity.

I have my beliefs, I'll leave them to theirs.
Exceptions to the norm do not constitute a spectrum.

We called these types "Stuffed shirts" in the past. These people still do not know of the intersexed persons either.

I know, talking to 'faux-christian' types like them about intersex breaks their minds for them

I would have loved to have spoken at that conference. I am a Christian who happens to be transgender. Wonder what they could say when I told them that God loves me and accepts me unconditionally. I would remind them that Jesus Christ died for me just he did for you. I would also remind them that trashing other people because they are different is very unChristian. Would not leave any stone unturned.
Be who you are.
Make a difference by being a difference.   :)

And all the while discounting the evidence, the medical professionals, and the transgender people that are telling them differently.

Willful ignorance of us combined with willful ignorance of what the gospel they profess to believe in actually says is just sad. Using that ignorance to foster hate is even worse.

One of the ways that these so called Christians keep the money flowing is to create conflict and "culture wars". This is just their latest cause to keep the good old greenbacks flowing in.

You don't hear them campaigning against divorce or tying to restrict divorce because they know that even in their community, that is a lost and touchy cause.

I am surrounded by evangelical fundamentalist friends, family and acquaintances and they generally eat this stuff up.
