I've always found it pretty hard to pass, as I look outwardly fairly feminine and it's pretty hard to hide my facial and body shape. Does anyone have any tips on how I should act, what I should wear, etc? This might not be in the right forum but just as an afterthought- does anyone have any advice on binding and packing well if I'm not currently in the position to order anything online?

Thanks all!  :D

(I am MTF) but maybe I have some tips. You are FTM right?

Body Language.

I am no expert but I have been pretending to be male for most of my life. I copied the other guys around me

When I have to be in Male mode,  I let my arms lift away from my body. Like you are airing out your arm pits. I also slouch forward so the chest is not sticking out. I guess if you have a binder you could stand straight and puff your chest out..? Also when sitting, open your legs, take up space. Guys seem to take up more space, spread out. If you talk with hand motions, try making the motions further away from your body. Not near your chest. Make fists and keep your wrists rigid. Be a bit clunky in your movements, women are usually more fluid in their movements. Maybe even scowl a bit, not angry scowl but more a "heavy thinking" scowl.

Oh yeah,  fart and burp. and laugh about it. hehe.

Again I am no expert, I have only been pretending to be a guy all these years.

Thanks for the tips Jade! I've come to realize lately too that body language is so important. I'll have to watch guys some more and see if I can pick up on more ways to act and behave.

Body language is super important. Probably the best thing you could do is go to a place that's crowded and just people watch for a while. A mall on the weekend would probably be a good idea.

Figure out what kind of clothes you like and wear them. Looser things will hide your body shape, but are generally not seen as fashionable. I layered compression shorts and jeans for a while to hide my hips and that worked well. Layering in general will help distort your shape.

If you can't order anything online, you could try sports bras that are made for running. But unless you're fairly small, that will only get you so flat. Layering would be key to success with that method. As far as packing, you can just roll up a pair of socks and use that. A lot of people try that at first to see if it helps enough to justify spending money on a packer.

Some easy tips that worked for me:

Wear long sleeved shirts/sweaters/button-ups and then roll or push the sleeves up. This will make your upper arms and shoulders appear bigger and more masculine. I'm on T and pass well and I'm only just starting to feel comfortable wearing my long sleeves normally, because I'm skinny and I don't think it looks right on me.

Try some voice exercises! When you're alone, hum in the lowest tone you possibly can for a few minutes. Speak to friends or your pets in a lower voice and do neck stretches in the morning. It'll feel unnatural at first, but soon you'll get used to it and speak in a deep voice all the time. (There are many guides on the internet about this.)

Put on a sports bra that's a bit too small, and then if you can, put on another one on top of it backwards. The back of the second bra should be over the front of your chest now. Might not work for everyone, but it made me fairly flat before buying an Underworks binder.

Try on some slim-fit men's jeans. I've noticed that if trans guys with wide hips wear relaxed-fit or even straight-fit men's pants, they look WAY too big in the leg. They buy the right size for their waist, but don't account for the fact that the legs of those pants end up too large. Slim-fit pants that fit your waist taper a bit in the leg and actually look like they fit your body, which helps with passing and even looking older. You don't need to be swimming in your clothes.

As for hair, I've noticed that leaving some length on the top and trimming/shaving the sides makes your head look a little more square.

Hope this helped!! Sorry if it didn't make sense, I'm tired and in a hurry ATM.
