UK Parliament to hear case for introducing a legal 'Third Gender'

http://www.pinknews.co.uk/2015/10/05/parliament-to-hear-case-for-introducing-a-legal-third-gender/

Pink News/By Nick Duffy   10/05/2015

"Campaigners calling for a gender-neutral legal third gender will give evidence to Parliament, it has been announced.

Currently, only male and female are legally recognised in the UK – meaning people with gender expressions outside the gender binary – such as those who believe they have no gender, or a mixture of both – receive no legal recognition."

Does this stand a chance?

It is a Select Committee. They do not make policy, but they can make recommendations which can become policy. The Committee is made up of MPs and they have a lot of power - they can summons anyone, even the Prime Minister - and they are not party political as they contain a mix of MPs from all parties.

They are currently gathering evidence and have several hundred witnesses to get through. Anyone can supply evidence and I know several trans people have done so and may appear in front of the committee.
