Stephanie , untill I read some of your posts I didn't know you are a transwoman . I can hardly believe it to be honest . There is no way I would have thought you were born male. I'm even a bit shocked ! I thought : " how come this beautiful , genetic girl on our support forum ? "

You must receive a lot of attention walking on the street , isn't it? Such a beautiful lady !

I think a lot of women on here are very jealous about your beauty and your beautiful , feminin appearence and nice , long hair .

I think that I speak for every girl I know , myself included , that we all can only dream of looking like you ! I think that even spending 100k doctors can not even come close to your beauty !

You really could be a twin sister of Angelina Jolie.

Am I the only one who isn't slightly queasy at "Ranking" transgender people. Who gets to decide who the "top" trans people are or even what makes someone a top trans person. I'm especially troubled there is no author line. No one wants to take credit for this trans.

I'll have to admit the idea of some cisgender person judging us and deciding who the seven most worth ones of us are really p!$$es me off.

How about Julia Serrano? Lynn Conway? Susan Larson? Janet Mock? Any one of those has done more for us than all 7 combined.

What about Jenna Talackova who transitioned at very young age and got it done that the Miss Universe Canada pageant ( owned by transphobic Donald Trump ) rules ( a woman who competes had to be a naturally born woman ) were rewritten !
Now Jenna is not only a woman with a history but she is a woman who made history !

I don't agree with Lynn Conway being a rolemodel for everyone in the trans community  .
Lynn transitioned and got srs at age 30 .
For older transwomen she might be a good example but being a transwoman who started to transition at  almost half her age I don't see any link with her for myself .
But in some aspects you may be right that Lynn Conway could be a good spokesperson . At least I have more in common with Lynn than with Laverne Cox for example who makes quotes that we will never be women no matter what we do ,.. Laverne also admitted that she initially came out as gay and that she was transphobic back in those days .
Laverne also doesn't behave feminin , she ridiculises us with her exaggerated mannerisms .
A spokesperson like Devon Marchant , who got voted homecoming princess and who took part in campaigns allowing us to have our names and documents changed prior to reassignment surgery . Isn't a young , beautiful transwoman like Devon or Jenna a better fit for our community than fake idols like Laverne Cox who only try to caricaturize us ?!

I'm seeing a whole lot of trans-shaming in your post. While I respect that certain well-known trans folks' lives may resonate with you that doesn't mitigate the contributions of the people you've mentioned, most of whom are true transgender pioneers who overcame difficulties and prejudice the likes of which you will never have to experience. I'm serious. Although we have a long way to go, you have a much greater degree of social acceptance and legal protections in place that were inconceivable to these people during their transitions. You are the beneficiary of their work. A little gratitude is in order.

There are many trans people who tried to make sense of their own emerging identities by looking at themselves through the lens of established norms and definitions. I have known MANY trans folks who initially thought they might have been gay only to discover that this was not an adequate description for their own experience. Chaz Bono is an example.

Some trans folks start out thinking they are crossdressers, some start out thinking they are gay. Some have none of those explorations in their history. In the trans experience, one size does not fit all.

Femininity, or anyone's concept of what is real femininity or an exaggerated version of it, is not a requirement for a legitimate lived experience. Shaming someone for their expression is not appropriate.

Not necessarily. For your own well-being I'd like to suggest that you pay less attention to physical beauty and passing privilege. These things are nice, but they are not what define a trans person. By reinforcing passing privilege you only reinforce the shaming tactics that transphobic people use to deny the validity of our lived experience and to deny trans identities. This is the foundation on which discrimination and anti-trans legislation is based.

I think people are just curious.. how someone can look so different after transition..  but it should not matter as long as we are happy with how we feel.. if we think only about looks we will never be happy.
I wanted to be a 135lb woman.. that did not happen.. I am happy being the size I am.. its me an that it..

What a piece of crap this article was.  "Top 7"?  Who gets to decide this?  A random cis person?  Why only 7?  Are there only 7 that you know of?  Also "transgender" is an adjective, not a noun (nor a verb, Limbaugh).

In all seriousness, I transitioned to save my life and wrestle it away from my demons.  I was as good as dead before and now I am happy every time I wake up in the morning.  That's what matters.  Going from fat guy to supermodel and being an object for the entertainment of the lowest common denominator was not even remotely the point of me transitioning, nor do I believe it was for any of us.  I look like the "me" that was always in my head now and I am grateful.  I also royally want to b*tchslap the people who published this horrible piece of shameless transploitation.

That was not my statement. I did not say that gay people and crossdressers become trans. I said that some trans folks explore their emerging identities by trying on different experiences until they are able to find the words to describe who they really are. It's a very common thing.

I sense that you may be just beginning your own transition and may not actually know very many real-life trans people. That's understandable, and it's fairly common. As you get to know and speak to more trans people you'll be amazed at how many people began their gender journeys by traveling down paths they recognized but were not necessarily the paths they were destined to follow.
