I originally chose a name for myself of whom I will become and over time I'm starting to worry if it's the correct name for me.  I don't commonly use it since I haven't stayed transitioning but I'm worried that when I do is it really the right choice. I just want to be happy with myself and both name and body not just my physical form will be.

You really need to use a name you are happy and comfortable with. Often you can only tell if it's right when you hear other people using it and by then it can almost be too late to change it without confusing everyone. That's one of the reasons I decided to use Grace as my forum name, I really wanted to wear it out and seeing it in print and having people refer to me as Grace was a great way to know that it was the right name for me this time (as opposed to Stephanie which I was originally going to go by).

Thank you I've always used Releca online for my persona. I also realized it's n ot a common enough NE here in the states to use well but may add a slight spin to it and go with Rebecca. I can always abbreviate it to Rel to give 5he same effect. I tried Jessica for a while and it sounds good and all but somehow isn't me.

I agree that having it called all the time gets you used to something more. It reminds me of a time I heard "before you name your kid something go onto the  back porch and scream it out at the top of your lungs for an hour. If you still like it then it's a good name you can stand"

The same can go for us with if you can't stand a name used over and over then you will not feel your best but if you like yourself in both body, spirit, and name you can be happier

I like the sound of Releca myself, but I have a thing for exotic and 'different' names. :p

I'm thinking about changing my name to Galyo when I start to transition. I came up with it by myself. I've always been kind of an alternative person. :p

I really do like Releca myself but I'm just not sure how society would take it. That is why I was thinking of using a more English name of Rebecca but I'm not sure really.

I like your name as well Galyo. I think it would work well for you. It's an alternative way of doing Gallo. Then again I use the Latin version as a last name (Gallus) so that may be a prejudice on my part

You do have a good point, of how society will react to it. But then again, I personally like to be called by a name that I like, not just a name that is expected or 'normal' in society. This is just personal, but I don't have any obligations towards a company or something, so it wouldn't bother me. However, I can imagine that if you work for a big company, it may concern you by what name people address you. In my opinion, Releca isn't that strange sounding in my book. Then again I'm also prejudiced. XD Haha.

And thank you! ^_^ I'm still not sure if I want to use the name Galyo permanently or not, since I still have a long road ahead of me. In the meantime, I'm seeing how well I get used to it. I'm loving it so far though!

I don't have any problem with my chosen name. However, my mother has, due to it being too "unusual". She also points out that having a name like "Freya" can draw attention. She even calls me by my chosen second name, Nora, which is essentially the feminine form of my given name, just to show how much she disapproves of my choice. Meanwhile, she doesn't even blink at her own brother, Toni, changing his name to......Tony. And he's not transgender. He went through all that paperwork and stuff, simply to change one letter.
My thoughts on the matter of unusual names? If you are going to change your name to something that fits you better, pick something awesome. Because you are awesome.

Freya is an wonderful name in honor of Norse beliefs but I'm also a bit of a cultural nut as well so I can see the beauty of using such a name.

Use what makes you feel comfortable and I'm not sure how old you are but the more established you get in work environments the harder it gets. Most I've known at working age quit their current jobs to go somewhere else when the finally make the name change. It's a hard world out there even if your place of work is understanding and some will fire you for just trying to change genders. It's really sad since it's a form of decriminalization itself.

This is why I like to work from home. It eliminates pesky social issues that can set you back at companies.

I agree. Choose a name you feel comfy with.  When I chose my name I had nearly no doubts that this is what I wanted, but just in case, I asked in a facebook group for my friends to make a list of their favourite girl names (did not tell them why) and then I started to look for the ones with the most "likes"

Definitely have friends use your name for awhile if they know. That's how I got my female name.
