In the clip, Lili Elbe, a transgender pioneer portrayed here by actor Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything), expresses her decision to have gender reassignment surgery.

Elbe made history in 1930 by becoming one of the first to ever undergo the procedure, which in that era was experimental."
