If I may play devils advocate here, a girl (and that's who this is aimed at here) who isn't on blockers is essentially on steroids. I've run 5 5ks in my life, if I had been allowed to race as a female in those I would have won 4 and come in second in the other one (she was going to college on an athletic scholarship) and I'm not even that fast. The article mentions variability in builds but they don't really address the point that some girls will be much larger and stronger than their teammates/opponents. If I had been out and transitioning in high school and I tried a slide tackle in soccer I probably would have sent some poor girl to the hospital. I understand that this can be yet another sleight to a short petite transgirl, but this isn't a baseless concern. When I played football in middle school I had to wear a special line on my helmet because I was "too big" to be a receiver. They have these types of rules both for safety and fair competition. If they want to instead put in height weight limitations fine, but I understand why they might just decide to not bother with it at all.
Just my $.02
