I just need to know if Eye doctors need to know my biological gender to give me my eye exam and to get me the right prescription for my glasses? I plan to go female and may or may not have to out myself but would rather not if it doesn't need to be done. Also, do they require ID and legal name and what not?

they don't need to know anything for the exam and prescription - when it is time to purchase the glasses you should let that person know and they can help show frames for whatever gender you need at the time - I have 2 pairs (one male, one female) that I switch as needed

If you are on HRT it might aid a doctor to know that. My eyes changed when I started HRT and changed again when I quit HRT. Until you know how your body handles HRT you should have regular complete checks watching for vision and eye pressure changes. Other than that, the only differences is frame style.

I'd be on hrt if it wasn't for stupid insurance companies not willing to pay for it. I didn't know that it also affected eyes too. Thanks.

I've heard of peoples eyesight changing after SRS and it just occurred to me this is probably why. Big changes in hormones.

After three years wearing my awful out of date lenses, in military frames well really bad transitional as I call it as I popped out the lenses of my sunglasses so my regular frames had a frame to go in because the frames got totally mutilated otherwise.
I finally got my eyes checked out Friday before last, and then got my new prescription along with totally cute female frames, though simple in the regards that I will use them even for military, along with prescription sunglasses as well.
When the time comes and I get to start hurt, I will make sure if I ever need to get a new prescription, I will use the frames I have and just have them order the frames, and replace into my current ones, cause I just adore them, would make things cheaper in any regard anyways.

I just purchased new frames with my current prescription last week. They didn't ask me for anything, apart from an email addy so they'd be able to contact me about picking them up. I did, however, take my girlfriend with to advise me about what looked good so I wouldn't have to rely on a salesperson who might read me as female rather than male. And I went to a place where no one knows me as a woman.

Some medications and not just HRT affect your eyesight so it's good to let your eye doctor know what meds you're on.  I've had the inconvenience of having to have my prescription changed after a medication change so it's something to bear in mind.  I like oval shaped lenses so I've stuck with my old titanium Calvin Klein frames for over 20 years now and I just get new lenses fitted to them each time my prescription needs to be changed.  They cost me a bit when I first got them, but they haven't given me a moment's trouble in all the time I've had them.  They are light to wear too and very comfortable.

If you are going to have your eye doctor file your insurance claims for you, they'll need to know your real name and possibly gender too. Insurance companies are very particular that way.
