Dehydration on Spiro

I learned a lesson yesterday.  I haven't really been keeping up with fluid intake for several weeks.  Yesterday morning I was just feeling bad and started drinking iced tea.  In a matter of hours I drank 21 eight ounce glasses plus two teaspoons of salt and even after all that didn't have to pee much all day.  Today I'm almost feeling normal again.

I am scared to see what that did to my scale weight though. :-)

It's a diuretic, so yeah, it will dehydrate you.

Oddly enough it doesn't do it that badly to me even though I am on a typical dosage of what MTFs get. However it does reduce the sodium in my blood and increase potassium, which is great for my blood pressure.

I feel like this is going on with me at times too. I drink tea and coffee a lot but have never been a water drinker unless it was during sports/workout. Sometimes i know i am dehydrating and i arrived home from a workout this weekend and promptly slammed about 3 large glasses of water.

I crave salt and have taken to eating lots of olives, pickles and drinking the pickle juice (yummo )

I will save you the trouble. Over 8 pounds of water weight. As you get your kidneys working again and the waste products flushed from your system you should lose some of that weight even with proper water consumption.

I drink 3 quarts a day and eat salt each day. I learned the hard way when I fainted and hit my head on the toilet bowl at work. I had to get up and act as if there was nothing wrong because there were people in the bathroom and I did not want a code called. I do not think I was unconscious for more than 30 seconds.

Yes! More water!

I've only been on for a week, but felt some cramping in my leg, my APN recommended that I up my water intake.

Funny thing is, I feel like I can't keep my water glass refilled enough.  So, yes, drink lots as you go along.  Coffee doesn't count as water. :)

I found I had to drink (and pee) a LOT for the first couple weeks on spiro, then everything pretty much snapped back to normal or near to it. My blood pressure is a bit lower than it used to be, but not problematically so. I may still be more inclined toward salty snacks, but even that isn't terribly pronounced.

While one should be drinking more water than would be a good idea to replace with coffee, the idea that coffee dehydrates you is not actually true. Its net effect, even accounting for its diuretic effect, is positive hydration.

Oh I realize that :)  .... all in all, I was drinking about 2x as much liquid a day since starting (I'm now more than that, probably 16oz of water every hour or two.  But on days where there was more coffee than water, I noticed more of a dehyrdated effect.

Coffee isn't leaving this girl's routine in the slightest. :) Just needed to up the water to go with it.

yeah outside of just drinking water, I actually gave up alcohol completely for 8 months before GCS because it caused me to have immediate headaches (early hangover?).
