This pretty much sums up the state of trans activism in the US (maybe even worldwide) today.
The site is run by a trans woman of color, hence the inclusion of the phrase "of color", but I recommend we omit that to read "We also need
ed trans people
of color front and center attacking the meme instead of being almost invisible".
That, all the time, every day, everywhere.
We get so paralyzed by our own sense of self preservation that we fail to make ourselves visible, counted, valid. And to be fair, some of us live in places where being visible is not wise or even safe (you folks get a pass), but most of us just want to be left alone.
That's fine, until something like this happens. We have nobody to blame but ourselves. Had we given a full-court press and still lost, well, that's politics. But it didn't happen that way.
We need to take a page from the LGB playbook. Be visible. Be known. Be real. Be vocal. Be yourself. And eventually the day will come when stuff like this is unimaginable.
