Hello Everyone!

        Well for starters, I'm new here and I would like to become more active in the community. I don't really have any trans* female friends. I do have two trans* guy friends. Anyways, my name is Kara, (I think that's what I'm sticking with) and I'm 24 year old transwoman. I'm also a veteran who's been having a tough time with my local Veterans Affairs Medical Center.  So, there's my short little introduction. 😇

I have a question concerning breast development. I took a few pictures before I showered, I just don't know if it would be inappropriate to post them for reference. I'm wanting to see if I'm in the early stages of development and would love some opinions. I don't have any other trans girls I can discuss this stuff with or show them. Anyways, I hope this makes sense to you all and thank you for reading!

Thank you for your response and clarification. I'm glad to be here and definitely looking forward to expanding my usage. I'm definitely glad I asked about that.

So, I've been so confused with how wonky they look, regarding my chest. I think my breast buds are developing/have developed. It seems like my nipples stay hard 90% of the time and they have gotten really tender and sore. When they aren't hard, they look bigger but swollen. There's a red/purple ring that seems to be surrounding most of my nipple as they apparently get larger. It also appears that they are in a different location and don't always look like they're pointing the same way. I've gotten some pain under my armpits that I thought were swollen lymph nodes, I'm beginning to think they aren't nodes.

Welcome to Susan's Place. Breast development can be very slow and I was on hormones for many years and still don't fill out a B cup. If you would like to discuss breast, there is something called the tanner scale and it will allow you to describe your breast without posting pictures. There is also a section where you can meet with other military members and share your military background. Let us know if there is anything else we can help you with.

Breast development can be a very wonky process - not just for trans women but genetic as well. Sometimes on breast grows quicker than another, sometimes the hurt, sometimes they itch, sometimes nothing. Usually the end result is more or less equal-ish but rarely exactly aligned in size, shape or anything. Every woman gets her own unique nipple and aureola growth, large, small, dark, light and everywhere in between. Hard nipples seems quite common with a lot of women. If you are concerned about any aspect or it has persisted for a length of time you should see your doctor.

Hey Dena, Thanks for the reply and advice! Same again for you Ms Grace. I'm almost at my month mark on hormones and my body seems to be adjusting to them fairly well. I guess it's good not to have too high of expectations, though I do have a few hopes. Haha. Everything I've read on here has been so positive and y'all seem very helpful!

Hi Kara, welcome!  The first sign is usually one firm and sore/tender/painful breast bud under the left or right nipple.  You might not see it in pictures unless you're really skinny, because it's a small lump.  But you'll definitely feel it if you touch it (ouch!). 

But like everybody said so far, development is really wonky and gradual.  You'll notice spurts, and then nothing for maybe months.  It takes 2-3 years or more to develop, so the key is patience.

Thank you for the welcome here, I'm fairly small, 5'8" and about 132 pounds. The first sign has definitely occurred then, haha. Both breast and under my armpits hurt too. It's just weird looking down and seeing one of them looking like it's pointing the opposite direction. I've noticed that if I accidentally roll over the wrong way when I'm sleeping it'll wake me up. =p

I definitely have realistic expectations as far as what HRT might do and how long it'll take. That's one of the reasons the doctor was comfortable recommending me, in my chart, to begin HRT on my next appointment. I've also decided that before I decide on top surgery, I'll wait 2-3 to get the most benefit and see how I feel then. I don't want to end up messing them up by doing it too soon.
