Ben Carson oversteps his Adventist faith in proposing separate bathrooms for transgender people

http://www.religionnews.com/2015/11/11/ben-carson-oversteps-adventist-faith-proposing-separate-bathrooms-transgender-people-commentary/

"(RNS) Presidential hopeful Ben Carson earlier this year said gay people chose to be gay because some men come out as gay after serving in prison. He eventually apologized for those remarks. Then Carson suggested bathroom segregation as a solution to the battle over which gendered restroom transgender people have the right to use."

In order to be consistent with their desire to discriminate against LGBT I have seen a lot of religious conservatives lately arguing that they should be free to discriminate against anyone they choose, including discriminating on the basis of race.

Love is not obedience, conformity, or submission. It is a counterfeit love that is contingent upon authority, punishment, or reward. True love is respect and admiration, compassion and kindness, freely given by a healthy, unafraid human being....  - Dan Barker

There are just too many people who fail to understand that their freedom ends where mine begins.  Playing the persecution card is just pathetic.  By that logic, the Jews in WWII Europe should have been more tolerant of the Nazis' perceived right to exterminate them.

They realize that.  They just believe that their freedom of religion is a higher priority and takes precedence.

The sad thing is that their freedom of religion isn't threatened at all.  That is unless treating other people like crap is a central tenet of Christianity.

Which version of the Bible are they reading?  I don't remember that part about it being cool to be a judgmental douche canoe and persecuting people you feel superior to because of your personal insecurities.  I do remember something about not judging lest ye be judged, not casting first stones and loving thy neighbor.  My takeaway from the NT was "don't be a dick, love everyone and mind your own business".

I don't even pretend to understand Seventh Day Adventists, but as far as I'm concerned you are free to do or believe whatever you like as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.  Simply being made "uncomfortable", however, doesn't count here.  You did that to yourself.

I was a 7th Day Adventist for a while once.  They are essentially fundamentalists with the addition of a 19th Century Prophet, Ellen White.  She wrote a book and came up with some strange things.

Take comfort in the fact that there is one thing they dislike even more than LGBT.  That is Catholics who they believe are all destined  for hell too.

I had to stop going to that Church after I read her book and saw how badly she was confused about basic logic and historical facts.

In fact, at least in America there is one thing that Christians hate more than LGBT and that is each other.

That's why they will fail.

The greatest irony ever.

Is this the same person who thinks that the pyramids are grain silos?

I look at the fundamentalist religious types in the USA who accuse trans people of being mentally ill and wonder if they have ever looked in the mirror? It seems to me that they are the ones in need of help, way, way more than us.

Yes he is the same one.  He also claimed that he turned down a scholarship to the Military Academy when he never received one in the first place.

He seems to have a problem with basic facts.

Seventh Day Adventists, Jehovah Witnesses and Mormons had ancient Egyptian mysticism in the early part of their sects. It would be natural that these faiths would have different interpretations of the function of the Pyramids. Dr. Carson is a top-notch pediatric neurosurgeon, but he misses the boat on a lot of basic things. A lot of the specialist professionals have a narrow view of things.
