"A transgender woman has been found dead in a men's prison in Leeds.
21 year old Vicky Thompson was found dead inside Leeds prison last Friday.

"She had been given a 12 month sentence for an as yet unknown conviction, but according to the BBC the sentence was later suspended.

However, Thompson was later made to serve her original 12 month sentence after breaking the terms of her suspended sentence."

"A transgender woman has been found dead in an all-male prison after telling friends she would kill herself if sent there.

Vicky Thompson, 21, was being held at Armley, a category B men's prison in Leeds, where she was pronounced dead last Friday, it was announced today.

The news has been greeted with anger on Twitter with campaigners and MPs expressing their dismay. Tim Farron, leader of the Liberal Democrats, has called for the law to be reformed urgently while Cat Smith, Labour's shadow minister for women and equalities, described the news of Thompson's death as "devastating"."

friggin horrible. *shakes head* Women should not be in men's prisons. PERIOD.

It's sad that if she'd got a gender recognition certificate they'd have sent her to a female prison. She'd been living female since her late teens but no certificate, no female prison. Basically killed by bureaucracy

also in case anyone was wondering she was convicted for shoplifting + mugging a 15 y/o girl and her mother
