Walking by the frozen food aisle.  And older guy says "Hello" I say "Hello" back to him he then smiles and says "Boy I sure am hungry" I almost asked him has that pickup line ever worked for you?

Not a pickup line, just being friendly to a pretty woman.

You know you pass when... you meet someone who you know is extremely transphobic and they not only chat with you but they hold the door open and treat you like a lady.

For my protection though, I will not say who it is.

But people who know me outside of here may have an idea. :)

"I don't know the way he smiled and looked at me shudder"
OK, but the "pretty woman" part still sounds right.

This is an oldie for me, but one of my favorite instances:

"You know you pass when..."

...you accidentally plop down your old license (heh, big woops!) as you're getting paperwork sorted at the bank for your deceased father's estate and the banker says "No hun, I need your license; you gave me your fathers" (she didn't look at the name, just a glance at the picture)

I used to be my own dad, apparently.  wEiRd, right ?!?!!

You know you pass when...

Riding the elevator. I don't feel so good, it shows, and there's just one other woman there.

She asks, "you feeling good hun?"
Me, "No, I'm kinda not feeling good if you know what I mean."
She asks, "Oh, your friend is here?"
Me, puzzled at first... then a lightbulb goes off in my head... "Oh no no, it's not that, it's just probably something I ate, but thanks anyway."

I never know how to react to this one.

This happened fourteen years ago......after FFS and before SRS.  I caught what seemed like a very bad cold and cough and it would not go away.  I made an appointment with a doctor.....a general practitioner who I had never been to.  I go to my appointment and had to fill out a form on a clipboard providing the typical information that a doctor's office needs on the first visit.  I sat down in the waiting room and filled out the form, then when the nurse came to take me to the examination room she took the clipboard with the form, looked over it, and then asked me if I was pregnant.  I was not sure I heard her correctly but said "no" and held my composure as she escorted me back to the examination room.  While I was alone in the room waiting for the doctor I had a big smile on my face and almost felt like laughing.  I knew then that I was getting to where I wanted to be.  On the drive home my confidence was soaring.  That event took me to a new level which allowed me to be confident and comfortable in almost any situation.

Last night I went to my ham radio club meeting. I hadn't been there in months. However they knew I was trans as I told them in an email.

Well I started chatting with people when I got there. People told me they were glad to see me etc etc. I figure good they accept.

People started chatting with me and one of them asked," so how's your husband?" I asked,"my husband?" The guy said, "yeah, how's (my old name)?" I said," oh wait, you think I'm my wife? No no no. I sent out an email saying I'm transgender and when the meeting starts I'm going to tell everyone." They were like so in shock. One of them said,"WOW You're kidding right?"

So even after all that I give my short announcement saying "hi my name is Kate, you may have known me as (old name) and I've been through a lot lately and well I'm back."

I sit next to a guy who I know very well. We have a conversation about things, he asks how everyone is, how the kids are then he said," well say hi to your husband for me."

I said,"oh wait what is my name?"

He said,"(my wife's name)"

Then I was like oh god... I had to explain the whole Trans thing to him and it took him a while to grasp...

That was an interesting night.

You order takeout and have just paid.. The cook is bringing another takeout order over and asks "Are you Melissa?" I had my bag of food directly in front of me.

LOL, yeah its kind of funny how people jump really fast to that conclusion if you are feeling sick for any reason at all. Apparently that "friend" is blamed for a lot ;) .
I had one friend of mine give me painkillers and relaxants that are very useful for women with cramps coming from that issue once, when I was having abdominal cramps - and amazingly they worked, even though I am rather sure it was more a intenstinal thing than what she thought.
And a Coworker tried hard to convince me to drink lemon juice against the headaches coming from PMS and she also had some other tip regarding the abdominal pain, since I had both of these at any time...

I try to not deny that I do have this but also not confirm that I have. Just trying to navigate around these situations....

In the supermarket today I ask this woman if she could move her cart. Music blasting in her ears, she couldn't hear me. I talk a little louder. Nothing, Then I get frustrated and push her cart aside. She then suddenly realized I was there, with a total b**h face. She turned to me, pulled off her headphones and told me, "damn, you on the rag or something?"

I just said, "nevermind. You win." and I turned around and went the other way.

I definitely don't explain that I'm trans. If anything I just say, "no" or "nevermind."

I used to think everyone at work knew I'm trans. Day by day I'm finding out that this isn't true at all.

I also think some people know and have forgotten.

I think that is what is happening to you. :)

Two of my clients have hired several new people over the last year and I was also surprised that they still don't know. I thought I would be a topic of office gossip, but apparently not. Even then those that do know say that they can't picture me being male anymore as it just seems natural that I'm a woman.

Generally people will be afraid about gossiping about you as that may be a disciplinary offense. In NJ there are strong laws and protections against discrimination based on gender identity and expression.

But in your case, no, people probably genuinely don't know.

I'm pretty sure my cats don't know I'm trans, and some people do, and others don't, so it's a mixed bag, but I like my life, and I'm happy being me, and that's what really matters.
