Perhaps this topic has been discussed before. If so, I apologise.

I was thinking that there are probably more trans women than we are aware of. I get the impression that a lot of people either deny/ignore it, or they never dare to transition.

I was thinking about it this morning. I don't know any statistics but I get the impression that, in this day and age, people, generally speaking, --at least in the western world, seem to be more accepting of diversity and it is encouraging a lot of girls like us to come out and finally be free.

I don't think that there are more trans women now than there used to be. But perhaps we are evolving towards a more accepting society in which everyone can be free and nobody is treated like a second-class citizen because of their gender or sexual orientation.

Please feel free to expand on this thought or discuss. 

I read a stat once that said that 1 of every 12 Americanachts ar trans.

I think they are probably a higher percentage of the general population than they were before the 1950s because of all the endocrine disrupters that fill the environment today and because of all the crap the medical and pharmaceutical industry feed to pregnant women.

Definitely more visible since social ostracism is less and treatment options more.  But beyond that I think there are more overall as a proportion of the population.

My hunch is that the percentage of people on the spectrum will increase significantly as acceptance continues to grow.

I don't believe that there are any more or any less. However with the advent of social media, it has been a lot easier for us to anonymously interact with each other.

I think that there are many who for their own reasons do not choose to reveal themselves publically. However, for the apparent increase in TG people, I feel that a more accepting society does have a lot to do with it. Of course, TG people have a very long way to go for mainstream acceptance but I am confidant that one day it will be so. It will just take time and strength as well as education by those who will follow in our footsteps.

We can only hope

Our numbers will grow, and here's why. I actually think there are two sides to the transgender female spectrum. A.) Girls who have genuinely felt trapped in a male body since childhood and absolutely had to transition to alleviate mental anguish. And B.) People who see gender as a *very* fluid state of human expression. I personally fall into the second category. Presenting as male didn't completely bother me, and I would have probably lived fine as male. However being female peaked my curiosity and also spoke to me in ways being male didn't (not to mention I was always feminine pre-transition), so I transitioned not for "the fun of it," but because to me gender is a free way to express yourself.

It is damaging to place a narrative on what it truly means to be a trans woman, so you have to include all people in the spectrum.

Basically I believe our numbers have increased and will continue to increase, because there are more and more people who are freely switching genders because they *want* to, because gender is just a form of expression for them and not conclusive of or tied to their sex. As the stigma towards gender fluidity eradicates, more and more people will feel comfortable experimenting and freely navigating through the gender spectrum. In the end we will eventually reach a society where gender has become as fluid as sexuality has now become. So in that sense our numbers will grow.

The word for group A is : transsexuals
Group B are cis-sexual transgender people, like gender fluid, agender, gender-non-binary, etc...

The A group is likely to stay the same (if not for another DES or similar experiments)... while there will be more and more transitioners who belong to second group.

Yep, completely 100% right. Group A has always been constant and will remain constant. Group B will probably grow.

I have always seen myself and even identified at one point as genderqueer, seeing as I belong to group B. I have both a male and female personality, and they were as equally strong at one point, although nowadays I find my female persona stronger than ever. For all intents and purposes I am a trans woman now, and identify as such, because I do have a strong female personality and have done the necessary medical steps to align my body with the rest of the trans female group.

I am thinking in a few years, Group A might actually decrease a little.  Here's why.  The last of the DES sons are hitting their late thirties and early forties and the usual percentage for that age group will start transition.  Remember, these are still people who did not know anything about transgender growing up.  People who thought they were the only person in the world like this.  After this group goes on up in age, barring as Lagertha said another DES or similar experiment, Group A should shrink slightly.  The numbers should go from an number artificially inflated by a medical misadventure to a natural number.  Of course with the amounts of estrogen being put in our food sources and leaching into our water supply, who knows what could happen.
