So I was having lunch with my amazingly supportive girlfriend and she said I was "an amazing man."  I told her I'm not a man, and she asked what I would prefer she say.  And I . . . drew a blank, lol.

I know enby is a popular replacement, but I don't really like it.  I also don't like broader terms like person or human because they feel so impersonal to me.

Has anyone else run into this?  What do you have people use instead of a gendered noun?

I hate the word enby, haha. For myself, anyway. If someone calls me that, it's a sure sign they don't know me at all. Personally, I feel like these things are specific to the situation. In this context, I might've said "an amazing person," "an amazing partner," or even just, "You're amazing." It definitely is tricky, though. I don't think there's a good non-gendered word that can be consistently inserted regardless of context.

I like they and them its not genedered and its less likely to out you if your in public and someone hears you being referred to as they. I feel like pronouns like ze just draws more attention to the person since its hardly ever used. But its up to you whatever feels right then go with it.

 One of my children is gender queer, when I talk to people and use the the word "they" when referencing them I get confused looks at times, as some people mostly older ones tend to view "they" as plural.

I feel ya. I like pronouns like ze, zir, and such but they're so uncommon it draws too much attention to use them. I wish there was some equivalent to man/woman for non binaries. Something I could own and empower myself with. Ah well.

I always knew I didn't identify as a woman, and before I had any plans to transition, it always made me happy when people called me a person.
