How DO surgeons perform a sex change? Eye-watering animation reveals every stage of how a man becomes a woman

"Male to female surgery involves removing the penis and testicles
A vagina is then formed from the skin of the penis and the urethra
The head of the penis, known as the glans, is used to make a clitoris
The labia - the vaginal lips - are made from the skin of the scrotum "

OMG!  I did see a picture of my SRS taken during the bloody process.  It was not pretty with no soothing instrumental  accompaniment.  Sure happy I was asleep the whole time.

Thankful to be lucky enough to undergo the process. Very much feel I'm living a miracle.

Thank you,
Anne

I was going to say, the looped acoustic guitar background music seemed a bit incongruous. Pretty impressive animation, though.

It is amazing how much they have developed this technique to preserve as many nerves and as much tissue as possible.  I guess SRS is like making laws or sausages - you don't want to know how it is done.

I would like to have the opportunity to be in the OR, and observe a full FFS, and SRS.

One of the surgeons that does this kind of procedure has a video on their web page that shows the operation in all its glory.. The first time I watched it I went Ouch!

Suporn gives his patients a USB stick with photos taken during the surgery. Really detailed and gory stuff. I made the mistake of looking at some I found on Internet once. Years later and I'm still trying to forget.

Actually you do want to.. into all details. Because only that can help you understand the differences among different techniques, leading to different results, and it's the only way to know which surgeon to choose.

I'll agree with that.  But there is a world of difference knowing how something is done, and watching it being done.  At least for me.

Really interesting. Maybe we should sticky this in the GRS section so people can see it when they're considering surgery.

Though, I'm glad I waited until I was post-op to see it.
Have you read my short story The Eve of Triumph?

Wow, great video. I had no idea how it was done! Well, I had SOME idea, but not even close of what it showed!

Now I want to see a real SRS video! lol

Not something to watch 5 days before the surgery.

I want to run away.....
To move forward is to leave behind that which has become dear. It is a call into the wild, into becoming someone currently unknown to us. For most, it is a call too frightening and too challenging to heed. For some, it is a call to be more than we were capable of being, both now and in the future.

It's quite informative . I still can't get the video of an actual operation  on the surgeon's web page out of my head , the first time  I saw that I was mentally looking for a corner to crawl into.

Considering I still am years away from attaining that goal, I would switch places with you in a heartbeat.  You'll do great!

There's a nice scientific/medical paper out there (detailing a specialized form of penile inversion) with pictures and diagrams of every step. It's my backup plan if guys don't stop asking and I'm tired of education them.

Fascinating :)  Should I ever want to have GRS I've now got a much clearer idea of what is involved.

This is the method used by Suporn in Thailand and I presume most of the surgeons in the USA.  There is an alternative (which I will undergo) called "scrotal skin inversion" this is the technique that Chettawut uses.  His method uses the scrotal skin for the vaginal vault and the penile skin is use for the labia.

Wish there was a similar animation of this type.
