Lip lift recovery?

Anyone that's had a lip lift (and/or fat injections), can you tell me about the recovery of that piece alone?

How bad is the swelling and for how long?

Did you look like you had a 'fat upper lip' or something for a few weeks/months?

Hi Debra,

I had an upper lip lift and a fat injection in the area above the top lip by the surgeon in Illinois.

The fat was injected in the area above the actual lips towards the base of the nose.

It's this surgeon's idea of feminity which I sadly dispute as it looks like I have been in a fight due to the permanent swelling which was made worse by a top-op fat injection 14 months later.

See my thread on the subject:  https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,200643.0.html

An endocrinologist that I am seeing here in the UK thinks that this surgeon's idea of feminity is to make his patients look like barbie dolls and I now reluctantly agree having seen the post-op patients of many other FFS surgeons who have come onto the scene over the last 10 years or so.

I was shopping today in Kingston and had Xmas lunch in Bentalls for a treat.

I am a people watcher by nature and looking at all the GG's around me, the younger ones had full lips but the area above the lips up to the base of the nose were nice and flat, therefore natural looking. The older women had the usual vertical lines/creases below the nose and thinner lips which sadly occurs as a woman gets older.

When I looked in the mirror when I went to the loo, I thought, Paula you look like you have had too much cosmetic surgery in this area and it looks wrong for your age or indeed any age, in my opinion.

Anyway to answer your question, the recovery of the fat injection does take a while ( 2-4 months in my case ) but only so much of the fat reabsorbs and the rest in permanent.

Having a top up made my situation even worse and I will regret it to my dying day.

I have actually witnessed this surgeon joking to his staff that his patients looked like Negros after their fat injections which I found incredibly rude to these people and incredibly unprofessional .... :o

Finally the upper lip lift that I had was negated by the fat in the area below the nose and the scarring together with the raised vertical ridge (sub dermal lesion) that was left under the right alars ( I had a full alarplasty ) are going to be revised next April with a fresh upper lip lift which will remove this scar and also improve the existing lip lift scar.

So in my case after my upper lip lift, the scar took at least 12 to 24 months to settle down but is not perfect.

Therfore as far as I can tell, it all depends on who does the surgery and how you heal, so before having anything such as this is done, ask lots of questions, OK.

Hugs

Paula

Forgot to mention but I did have fat and subsequent top ups to the nasolabial folds and originally to the temples which have been very successful, so that part was good at least.

Thanks for all the info Paula. Who was your surgeon? Would you do the lip lift again w/o the fat transfer? And how long does the swelling for that portion calm down etc?

Hi Debra,

A surgeon in Illinois.

I am having the lip lift done again by Facial Team next April. See my thread: https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,200643.0.html

With this US surgeon it took 6-9 months for the scar to fade.

The scar is in the nose, right? What about actual swelling though?

Hiya,

The scar is under the nose and is visible.

My swelling went down after a month or so.
