One group of families that may feel particularly isolated and stressed are those that struggle to accept family members who are gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, and their life partners or current girlfriend or boyfriend. It isn't something that Mom, Dad, Grandpa and Grandma probably want to put up on a billboard for all the neighbors to know.

My family refused to allow me to visit for the holidays this year because I've transitioned and they can't deal with it.
Here's what I find about compromise--
don't do it if it hurts inside,
'cause either way you're screwed,
eventually you'll find
you may as well feel good;
you may as well have some pride
