Virginia High School Student Punished for Wearing Lesbian T-Shirt

The American Civil Liberties Union is demanding an apology from a Virginia high school for punishing a student who wore a lesbian t-shirt to class. I.C. Norcom High School officials threatened the 17-year-old senior with suspension for wearing a shirt featuring an image of two overlapping female gender symbols.

a shirt with two overlapping female symbols distracted a teacher enough that it impaired her ability to teach? 

that is complete bs and we all know it!! the teacher is the one with the real problem!!!

Yeah, the US sucks for minors.  No real free speech till you're 18, the school has the right to suppress what they see fit to suppress.

I find the teacher disingenuous. I suspect what "interfered with her ability to teach" was her own personal arousal at a lesbian. Of course, she isn't likely to sat THAT.

So, absent her being a complete idiot and saying that was what the problem was, I imagine that the student will not be wearing that shirt to class there anymore.

Sad, but true, that one person's displeasure with another's orientation when the displeased one is in a 'power-over' position in a school will normally mean that the one with less power will toe-the-line.

They see lesbianism as a sex act rather than a statement of love. Again, projecting their own fetishes on those who they are able to grind down into the ground. The teacher needs some serious counseling or will eventually harm a student.
