"CHANDIGARH: In a move that may not have helped much in overcoming social stigma, but was certainly expected to promote education empowerment among transgenders and prevent them from dropping out of school, the Centre had launched two scholarship schemes - Pre-Matric and Post-Matric scholarships in April 2015. However, even after eight months, no student had benefited from it for a simple reason - lack of awareness. While some states have taken various steps, like introducing new chapters on transgenders, Chandigarh is lagging behind in promoting education among the transgender community at the school level."
